Eibsee Hotel
We will rent a car and leave Munich to head towards Oberammergau (to ride the alpine slide) and then on to explore Zugspitze and Eibsee area. Has anyone stayed at the Eibsee Hotel?. The location on the lake looks beautiful but it is pricey for our dates end of August. Worth it for location and mountain access? The other option is to stay in Grainau or Garmisch-Partenkirschen (hotel recommendations). We will only stay one night before driving to Heidelberg.

We passed the hotel in the snow in February and it did look stunning, sorry can’t help with the interior or the service. We had a very enjoyable time, Zugspitze was one of my lifetime highlights. This was my first visit to the Alps and I’ve spent a lifetime hiking at lower levels. To experince a trip to the altitudes of Zugsptize was a heck of a time for us. GaPa is expensive, we paid e500 a night stay a Werdenfelserei which is an incredible piece of architecture. That was for a family, large room in ultra high season but standards come in at around e180. Don’t know where to start with the place, part James Bond, part Fawlty Towers. The pool is like nothing I have experienced before, the breakfast was biblically good. We had no sleep due to road noise and the staff were surely / incompetent. We we will probably return and stay at “My Mountain Retreat” next winter. What’s your budget? |
We stayed at that hotel in 1961 as part of a space available trip.
Perhaps you will want a more recent reference. We loved it then. |
thanks for that recommendation! the hotel looks fabulous-hard choice, but in the end i think I will book Eibsee hotel due to its lake front location which allows for amazing views and the ability to go into the water. And Zugspitze access is right there! Plus half board is included which makes it seem like decent value for e302/night.
