Edinburgh Tattoo Opening Night

So what do you think my chances are of getting tickets for the Tattoo for its first night? I plan on getting online at the opening time on Dec. 1st (5am my time). We will have to leave Edinburgh on Dec. 9th to come back home. I'm sad I will miss the book festival (I'm an elementary librarian!), but my school may start on August 17th next year.

if you get in on the first day you have a good chance, look of tickets for the east stand as this gives you a front on view of the castle, though views from all stands are very good.
If you can't get tickets for the opening night look to see if there are anything available for the final rehersals the day or two before for a fraction of the price.

Hi Amelie. I assume you mean you'll leave Edinburgh on Aug 9th ? It's a shame you will miss the International Festival too (the main festival and IMO the best) but you'll get the Art Festival and several days of the Fringe - although it doesn't officially start until the 7th, there'll be (often cut-price) previews on during the preceding week. When do you plan to arrive ?

As for your actual question - I don't really know, I'm afraid (I've never had any desire to go to the Tattoo myself). Tickets for the whole thing used to sell out in Dec/Jan but didn't until Mar/Apr this year, presumably due to the economic climate - so I'd imagine general demand will be down again this next time. I know weekends sell out first, I assume due to the fact that lots of tickets go to UK-based tour operators who bring coach parties - but I'd imagine Friday is better than Saturday.

P.S. But would you not rather go on the Saturday, when they have fireworks ?

Ha, oops August 9th not December.

Well, we plan to arrive July 22nd but we'll be with family in Aberdeen. We might only head down to Edinburgh for our last weekend there. Not sure yet. I was thinking Friday night vs. Saturday night since we might leave on Sunday early morning (maybe Monday though) and the firework Tattoo performance is very late that Sat. night.

I better make up my mind by Dec. 1st!

Not too sure if you have left it too late to join the Friends of the Tattoo http://www.edinburgh-tattoo.co.uk/fr...iority-booking I think it costs £25 to join, but being a Friend gives you a number or benefits the main one being the opportunity to buy up to six tickets for any specific dates and seating location (including the East Stand) you wish, prior to the tickets going on sale to the general public
