Edinburgh Restaurants

We have a long weekend booked at The Balmoral on Princes Street. We will be eating in the hotel on one evening but are looking for a couple of places for lunch or dinner. Somewhere fun, or a bit different perhaps. Nothing too forma as we will get that in the hotel. Any cuisine will be fine just looking for excellent food, ideally within walking distance of the hotel. Budget is not an issue.

Any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. Have done a lot of business entertaining in Edinburgh over the years but it was a long time ago and doubtless a lot has changed.

TIA

My friend has just returned from a long weekend in Edinburgh and raved about Baba, a Mediterranean restaurant.
I love The Dome, probably too formal for dinner but maybe for lunch? Love the building and decoration and always feels special.

My two favorites were L'escargot bleu (56 Broughton St). Good French place with the best Steak Tartare I have ever eaten (Heat Strength 7). Was there in 2017 and 2022.

Also, we enjoyed Angels With Bagpipes (343 High St). Was there in 2022.

Shame to go all the way there and not partake in some more traditional meals. Save the French food for France ;)

Thanks so much all! A few of those look interesting. I especially liked the look of the Plateau de fruits de mer at the Cafe Royal and if my wife sees that, that is where we will be going!
A lot is made of 'Scottish cuisine" but apart from Cullen Skink and Haggis it always seems more about the ingredients than the actual cooking recipes. I love Haggis even if it is arguably a derivative of faggots from the county of my birth, Cornwall. :p. The Haggis Box looks an interesting stop for lunch!

Crellston, if you wish, you can click on my name for a thread that I started a month or so ago requesting restaurant recommendations for Scotland. There are quite a few for Edinburgh as well as other places in Scotland. We will be there in June so I can't speak from first-hand experience. I do remember that Cafe Royal and Angels with Bagpipes are amongst those recommendations.

I'm another who enjoyed Angels with Bagpipes.

Pretty good food and not expensive at lunchtime.
