Edinburgh, Pitlochry, then where?

My cousin and I are going to Scotland in late May for eight nights. We are staying in Edinburgh for two nights, Pitlochry for three nights. We hope to tour the Highlands from the latter location. What would you suggest for the next 2 days? We expect to return to Edinburgh the last night - getting rid of the car and taking a cab to airport on last morning. Regarding those two days, my cousin says she would like to "be near the ocean." We are not interested in remote areas on this trip. Should be head west or east from Pitlochry before driving back to Edinburgh? What about St. Andrews or some area south of Edinburgh? If possible, I would like to visit Abbotsford. Suggestions appreciated.

My suggestion is to split the difference and enjoy yourself in the other locations for those two nights. It's really just wonderful to BE in Scotland and spend time enjoying it. Have a grand time!

I live in Edinburgh.

DON'T TAKE A CAB TO THE AIRPORT.

The Airport Shuttle only cost 2 pounds a head as opposed to the taxi which cost 15 in total.

I agree with Danna's suggestion, but if you want sea and Abbotsford, have a look at Eyemouth

kmht: actually, the airport bus is £3. If you have bags & need to take another bus (usually 80p) to connect with the airport bus, it can be worth getting a taxi instead - it all depends where you're starting from.
