Edinburgh or Brussels
We will be in London in the end of January and are planning a side trip to either Edinburgh or Brussels. What are your thoughts and experiences with these two cities. Would also appreciate hotel recommendations -- a great location is our first priority.

I don't know about Brussels about Edinburgh was wonderful, admittedly it was in August during the comedy festival. It is a beautiful city, with lots to see, and a great walk up King Arthur's seat. It will be very cold in January, probably snowing. I am looking forward to taking my partner there myself.

Don't be scared away by Emma and the weather to be expected in Edinburgh in January. It may snow, but will melt very quickly. I consider the winter weather very moderate by my Wisconsin standards. Edinburgh itself should be in the 40s during the day, reaching the low 30s at night. I was there last New Years and found the weather to be quite plesant.

I'd prefer Edinburgh in bad weather to Brussels in good weather. (You can't exactly count on great weather in either place anyway.)

Dave

I can't comment on Brussels but Edinburgh's pretty good at the best of times.

There's a thread on here which did a huge comparison between Edinburgh and Amsterdam about a year ago. You might want to see if you can find that.

If you would like I have acouple of Edinburgh files I could send you. Let me know.

If money is no object vis a vis hotel you should stay at the Caledonian (coll. "the Cally") or the Balmoral (coll. the NB-it used to be the North British) If price matters a bit either the Crowne Plaza on the Mile or the Point. Or for a surreal experience the Witchery at the Castle.
