Edinburgh-Late Dec. Weather?

We are considering a visit to Edinburgh for the last week of Dec. We understand they have a wonderful New Year's Eve festival. Can anyone advise us as to the weather at that time of year?
Many thanks!

Only if you promise not be put off....

Cold and wet; or, if you're lucky, cold and dry. But cold and wet is the safer bet.

But Edinburgh's hogmanay party is great and you would love it. dress warm, bring a waterproff and book into someplace with an open fire and a good stock of malt whisky. What more could a body ask for?

We were in Europe last December and in Edinburgh for Christmas and New Years. Before I describe the weather - I will qualify that I am from Wisconsin.

Scotland was the warmest weather we had the entire trip (we were in Germany, Switzerland, and France). Night time lows were around freezing - day time the temp was mid 40s to low 50s. For winter time I described it as almost balmy. We went to the Hogmanay celebration and the weather was great - no rain and mild temps. We were very comfortable. Have a great time - it is a great city.

Not that I like to agree with Sheila but...yeah cold and then some more cold on top of that.

In winter 96/97 in Edinburgh it got down to minus 26. Five seconds in that temperature and you knew all about it.

Generally it will be freezing, always windy in Edinburgh and may or may not be raining. Snow usually waits these days until the new year.

In joining in this lvefest, I would like to pint out that was the coldest it's been here in 40 years or something. Normal is 3 o4 degrees of fros at night and tp to 3-4 degrees above during the day

Sheila - were you just having one of those moments?? (**grin** LOL!!!!!) Reminds me of myself when I haven't had my morning tea!

The winter can be extremely windy. Gray and rainy will most likely be the order of the day.

Hi, Ann,

Don't forget dark, too. Northern latitudes, longest nights of the year and a' that.
Still, it can be a lot of fun, and to quote an ancient TV advert, "Yer beer is good."

Are you a tall dark stranger?
