No one can help much w/o more info.

What is your budget?

When will you be there?

How many days?

How many people?

What sort of atmosphere do you like?

I'll take a shot-- Radisson Blu on the Royal Mile.

Thanks much...I will check all those out..and I apoligize for not giving more info..I'd like a hotel that is central to walking about ( is the old city and the Royal Mile area the key to that.?)...one that maybe includes b-fast or at least near local restuarants, moderate in price..say no more than $125 US...old style architecture not a proglem as a matter of fact the ambiance is better for me...thanks again for all that have helped

Do you mean for a single or a double? $125 (£75-ish) wouldn't actually be considered 'moderate' in Edinburgh for a double room. It would be pretty low. For example, the Radisson mentioned above will run about twice that.

Channings can be had for about £95-£100 for the standard rooms

The Apex International will have rooms just above your budget-- maybe £85-£90 ($135-$145-ish). It is in a terrific location.

To get under your budget, you'll probably need to check B&Bs

This summer, I was able to get the Holiday Inn Express-Royal Mile on Cowgate for $145/night through Priceline (non-bidding).

In addition to Priceline, you can try Booking.com and Venere.com for prices.

Bit modern for you I suppose but 10 Hill Place was quite a good location for us last year.

I wouldn't say 10 Hill Place is close to the "walking sites".

To the OP: you need to look into a B&B or Guest House (Scottish term of art for B&B with 6-10 guest rooms) to stay within that budget.

And $125 isn't mid-priced for any major city in the US.

It's only a suggestion Russ !

It was perfect location for us, less than a mile to golden mile. Easy when you can walk.
Guess it depends where you want to walk to.
Then no where is perfect :-)
