I need help picking a BB location from someone familiar with the city.

Is it more convenient to stay in a BB located on Murrayfield Ave(west of Haymarket), or on Pilrig St (north of Waverley Station).

I'll have 1.5 days in the city. I'm taking the train in, then flying out. THANKS.

I'd pick Murrayfield Avenue. I think it's a nicer area and it's on the way to the airport. Pilrig Street is in the opposite direction, down Leith Walk.

I stayed on Pilrig Street in my student days; handy enough for generally getting about, but you will ahve to cross the city centre to get to the airport - I'd say Murayfield Road is the better bet

Are these your only two choices? if so I agree w/ Barbara - Murrayfield.

But right in the very center would actually be more convenient - since Waverly Station is right there and the airporter bus also leaves from waverly.

Thanks for all your help. I just booked a BB on Murrayfield for 35 pounds (single). Oddly, quite a few BBs I've enquired are booked full for the May 19 weekend, including the Castle View.

Do you know how long the bus takes to get to the airport. My flight is early Sunday morning and wondering how much time to allow. Thanks again.

On a Sunday morning it shouldn't take more than 10 or 15 minutes. The timetable from Waverley and the routemap are online at www.flybybus.com. Note that the airport bus makes a limited number of stops: you'd probably get on at Murrayfield or the zoo, depending upon where exactly you're statying. Once you get there, there should be a schedule at the bus stop w/ exact pickup times.

The Frommers book says there is a combined Airport transfer/bus day pass available. Does anyone know the price and if this can be purchased from the driver as well.

That's not true anymore. I just looked on the Lothian buses website, and it says that as of March 26, the day tickets are no longer valid on the airport bus.

The regular day ticket can be bought from any regular bus driver. They've also eliminated the former restriction that the cheaper day tickets could only be used after a certain hour (I think it was 9:30 am).

To clarify, there's only one day adult day ticket available. It costs 2.30 pounds.

So that means if I plan to ride the bus 3 times in a day, then the day ticket would pay for itself.

Yes - especially as all bus rides (except the airport express) costa flat rate of 1GBP.

BTW you can get the 35 bus to & from the airport.
