I stayed Nov 3rd - 6th,2006, at Apartment by Castle.

The Apartment and the owners are both wonderful. The location couldn't have been better.

Moira responded to each of my numerous emails quickly, giving loads of great info and directions.

The Apartment was exactly as described and shown on her web page. It was supplied with anything a traveler could need and more. I found the Apartment by Castle to be extremely tidy and comfortable.

Moira and Eric left no stone unturned with resource notebooks in the apartment. Restaurant suggestions, tours, phone numbers, etc. Even notebooks on how to operate every appliances in the apt.

My rate was 80 pounds per night for 2 people.

I would not consider staying anywhere else while in Edinburgh.

crazy5Hawaii: fair enough, I didn't know you had only 2 days. Beware though that since the Royal Mile is tourist central, it's not the best place to eat or drink. (Though Plaisir du Chocolat is nice & the Witchery is fairly good though expensive.)

It's highly unlikely you'll need ac :-)

crazy, just thought to mention - make sure you don't miss strolling round the New Town too, as that's the most beautiful part of town. (I'm sure you know but in case not - "New" here means Georgian :-) )

There are four bus tours which go round the city, three of which travel through Johnston Terrace and one which travels in George IV Bridge which is nearby. Information on their routes can be found at www.edinburghtour.com
and all of these offer discounts on subsequent tours and admission fees to various attractions.

Thanks for the link to the bus tours. My family and I tried one last trip but we didn't know about all of these. I have stored the link in my file for our trip next spring. All the best.

Unfortunately they are all operated by the same bus Company - Lothian Buses but they cover various parts of the city centre and the Majestic tour also travels to the Port of Leith where the Royal Yacht Britannia is moored.
They have a Royal Edinburgh Ticket which covers two days unlimited use of all Lothian buses including the various tour buses plus entry to Edinburgh Castle, Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Royal Yacht Britannia. Tickets are expensive £34 for an adult, £27 for a student / Seniors over 60, and £13 for children under 15.

IMO you'd do better to take one of the bus tours one day (Guide Friday is I believe the best as they have live guides) & if you are going outwith the city centre at all, just get day tickets for normal buses the other days - £2.30 per day for unlimited use, excluding night buses (after midnight) & the airport bus. You can get a normal number 22 bus to Britannia, you don't need a tour bus.
