Edinburgh Apartment in Grassmarket

I had several responses from my last inquiry that suggested that we try staying in an apartment while in Edinburgh for a week in September. I actually found one that is available in the Grassmarket area on West Bow. Does anyone know anything about this area - is it safe/clean/all that stuff. Looks like it is close enough to the Royal Mile to be convenient to everything but maps don't tell the whole story. Thanks!

give us a link to the actual flat -- but Grassmarket is very central and right under the shadow of the Castle/Royal Mile. Mostly cobbled streets, lots of pubs/restaurants/shops. Can be noisy especially on nice summer evenings.

These photos will give you an idea of the area http://www.doughoughton.com/webpage/page/page043.html

The one we are looking at is the West Bow property

ooh - that looks like a gorgeous place. I'd stay there in a minute. It is on the top floor, which might/might not be a problem for you.

Great location- great looking apartment. I THINK someone stayed here a year or so ago, but I don't think I could find the thread if my life depended on it. My recollection is they spoke highly of it.

Lots of quirky shops, nice cafes and restaurants, two minutes to the castle, and the High Street. Go for it.

It is a great location ideal for visiting the city,it is part of a street called Victoria street that goes from George IV Bridge down to the Grassmarket,West Bow is the bottom part of the Street. This really is the Heart of Old Edinburgh
There was an article in the local paper recently about the change of use of one of the shops in this street.

We had a great time at 87a West Bow in Edinburgh last month. While it's more pricy, for a fortnight they might give a discount. There are two different apartments if you need three bedrooms. However, depending on your configuration, the lower apartment might fit the bill - one twin, one double, and then a day bed in a room off the double (you have to go through that room to get to the bathroom). There are three couches as well as the beds, kitchen, dining, two bathrooms in total, and living room. Up a couple flights of stairs, but literally two flights of stairs from the Royal Mile. Nice mostly quiet area, good food nearby. Spacious place.

They have a new website since I rented, but the pics are great :)
