edinburgh accomodations
This summer I will be passing through edinburgh for a few days. I am looking for a place to stay outside of the city. I will have a rental car during that time and do not want to drive into the city. There will be 3 of us and price really doesn't matter. Any suggestions on somewhere to stay?
Thank you |
Is this for a base to see Edinburgh? If so, you can get B&Bs w/ parking just outside the city center, but still IN Edinburgh. You can leave the car and take city buses into the center.
"Price really doesn't matter" - are you sure? Do you want to pay £25 pp, or £100 pp? What sort of property are you looking for -- a B&B, full service hotel, Castle, or?? |
One thing to take into account are the parking zones within Edinburgh - basically unless you are a resident of that zone it gets VERY expensive to park
http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/internet...inalmap%20.pdf gives the current area of the zones I'd probably be looking for somewhere in the Corstorphine area as it's outside the zones and has good access out of Edinburgh by car (except before 9:00am & between 4:00pm & 6:00pm) and there are a wide range of buses into the central area. An alternative would be down towards Leith. But the question is - how much do you want to pay & how what are your plans for Edinburgh |
What dates in the summer as August is festival time and accomadtion in and around Edinburgh gets booked up early. You will find if hard to get what you want if you leave it too late.

kira23: welcome to Fodors. Last month you posted the same sort of question about renting a flat in London - and never came back to respond/tell us your budget. It is pretty hard to give useful advice w/o more info from you . . . . . .

Since the days of the £1 train ticket from Manchester are over I am also travelling to Edinburgh by car. Next month we return to Salisbury Green which is a hotel run by the University. Depending on the site you read it is 3* or 4*.
It is very comfortable and quiet even though it is very close to the bus route. Breakfast is good-good coffee fresh bread and muffins and cooked breakfast if you want it.It is nicely furnished. It is on the edge of the campus at Pollock and the buses into town are so frequent that we didn't have time to read the timetable before one came along. I think we are paying £90 for the room. Parking is free. |
