Edinbough/Glasgow

My friend and I are driving from Manchester to spend a couple of days in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Dear friend does not want to drive into the center of either city. Does anyone have a suggestion for lodging either out side of the city or between the two cities? Appreciate any suggestions.

Is there a reason you must drive? A car isn't necessary in either city and can be a REAL hassle. If it is just Edinburgh and Glasgow you're visiting (and not, say, a couple of days in the Trossachs/Perthshire) you'd do better to stay in the middle of each city and be walking distance to the sites.

Manchester > Edinburgh > Glasgow > Manchester is fast/easy by train.

But there are lots of B&Bs outside the city centres that will have off street parking. What is your budget?

And getting between Edinburgh & Glasgow is simplicity itself as there are frequent coaches and trains so you don't even need a car for that

I agree with the foregoing. If you must drive, try Linlithgow.

<<< If you must drive, try Linlithgow >>>

which is on the mainline between Glasgow & Edinburgh

We will already have a car and thought that it might be more economical for two to drive, rather than each paying for train tickets..maybe not. As far as a budget,we would like to keep it around $150 a night.
Thanks

I repeat, Linlithgow

I would think that by the time you have added fuel costs to having a car hired for 3 days, that train will be cheaper. At the moment in October you can get single fares from Manchester to Glasgow for as little as £15.50.
The train fare from Linlithgow to Glasgow and Linlithgow to Edinrbugh is almost the same as the fare from Glasgow to Edinrbugh or vice versa....so if you drive you will have more fares between cities.
It's just so much more relaxing by train
