Ediburgh lodging - July.
Anyone have any experience with the Norton House, Sandaig Guest House, or Melville Castle in Edinburgh?
Thanks. |
I know of the places but have never stayed in any.The First and last Places are higher end places outside of the city center and you would have to use public transport to get into the city (don't drive, cars and Edinburgh just do not mix)
The Guest House is in Leith actually looking over Leith Links, there are quite a few small hotels and guest houses in this area. you would still need to take a bus into the city from there too |
Thank you, unclegus. We will be three adults and two children (7 & 9). We were hoping to stay someplace with a lot of character. Is there a place in town that might fit the bill better? Also, I don't know the transport system there. Are buses consistent and easy to figure out?

Buses in Edinburgh are superb and you can buy a family day ticket for around £7.50 which gives you unlimited use of the buses.
http://lothianbuses.com/plan-a-journ...es-and-tickets There are numerous places with character in the city this link will let you see lots of Guest houses and small hotels. http://www.visitscotland.com/accommo...urgh-lothians/ I would suggest the Minto Street, Mayfield Road, Craigmiller park area ,it is actually one long street with loads of places to stay either on the street on within a short distance,I will include Dalkieth road in with this basically EH9 and Eh16 areas. The farthest point of these streets is about 2 miles from the city center but there are numerous buse that will get you right into the center in 10-15 minutes and I would be surprised if you had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus. There are route p[lans and timetables on each bus stop and may of the bus stops have real time satalite trackers for the buses. There are other areas of the city that have lots of similar type accommodation but the area I mention is the place with most options,I also happen to live not far from that area. |
Great info, unclegus. Thanks so much!
