I won't directly tell you the address to the website, as that is what this post is all about, but let's just say it's located in Ed's email address and leave it at that.

I wasn't going to get drawn into this, as it seems there are many opinions as to what Fodor's means by 'no commercial promotion'. If you click on 'FAQ' which gives much more deatil as to their rules of conduct you will see the following:

Q: 'Can I promote my business on your forums?'

A: 'No, absolutely not. ' it goes on to talk about independant travellers..etc

I think that speaks for itself, and please respect the rules of this forum.
The people mentioned above are welcome to the forum as long as they stay away from 'promoting their business on the forum'...

Yes, Rose, but every promoter on this will deny that they are promoting until they are blue in the face...that's what this thread and similar ones are all about. Ed and Rex and SharonM and all the others tell you they are NOT here for those reasons, but their links, references, recommendations and outright solicitations belie their claims that they are just "helpful travelers."

I really wish Fodor's would enforce the rules that they themselves created for their own site.

Did it ever occur to you that Fodor's doesn't care about any of this and doesn't see it as a problem? Someone said early in this thread that the solution is to take your complaints to Fodors. Why don't you all do that rather than have this nasty debate?

People,

This is one thread that begs for resolution. People are allowed their opinions and the debate here has gotten heated, to the point where it's unpleasant to see it keep surfacing. Let me share with you some of my impressions of my visit with the Fodor staff. They appreciate the thoughtful and in depth responses that are given here and they keep a vigilant watch. But certainly you don't expect them to enter into squabbles such as this, as some kind of authority, or as if they were one of "us." They read BOB THE NAVIGATOR and Ed and Julie and if they had a problem with them, which I don't think they do, they would have been history.

This is a community of people that help eachother find answers to create the best travel experience imaginable. The Bobs, Eds, Julie's and Rex's do much more than advertise or promote their independent travel services... they answer alot of questions here in ways that the Fodor staff would never have the time to do.

As the new week unfolds, perhaps we could turn our attention to who we are as a unique community, unlike any other
I've seen. Don't you ever wonder why this matters so much? Why a negative thread can ruin a day? Why someone's expression of hatred makes your skin crawl? I do.

God Bless!
Dr. Betty

Ed & Julie's website is one of the first really useful, personal, websites I encountered when first logging onto the web. It is chock full of useful information, tips, advice, and wonderful travel stories. That there is a link to Amazon.com on one of the many, many pages of their site, does not smack of advertising to me when they add a link to their site on this forum. And, they are in no way "promoting their business". I think it's commendable that they are able to offset the expense of providing their site to the rest of us by linking to Amazon.com. I, for one, had I never heard of Ed & Julie before, would be grateful that they contribute to this forum and provide the link to their site when one can find such enormous information. Anyone who objects can follow this rule:

"What should I do if I see a message that's rude or contains advertising?

If you see a message or reply that violates our rules of conduct, please write to us with the forum name and the title of the post -- we'll look into it. We would prefer that you NOT add further comments to the objectionable message. "

Hopefully you all registered your complainst about the atspain web site advertisement on the forum today. That's exactly what those of us who don't support Ed and Julie are talking about. It's a slippery slope, folks.

You'll notice he's at it again. Just used a question about a hotel to post his web site address. Why don't we all just write it down now and then bookmark it so we don't have to put up with Ed's antics. It's www.twenj.com/booksforsale

Call me a member of the clique if you want, but I have to say that I have seen nothing but positive contributions from Ed in the past, and his site is excellent. What is wrong with asking someone to go to your Web site anyway, if it is mostly or completely noncommercial? I would love it if everyone here could say "go to ****.com and see a more complete opinion and some links that may prove helpful." I have referred a few people to my site in the past. I have not promoted the address to everyone because there is still so much work to do on the site. Heck, I even have links to commercial sites on there, but I can assure you they will never send me a cent. Of course, if they are reading this and decide to cut a check, I could use it.

Uh oh, Rex is on fire again, so it looks like he decided to resurrect yet another old post and catch somebody else on fire!

Anything to deflect and redirect attention away from his own antics.

I commend Ed and Julie for all the information they give out to many of us who ask travel questions. They take a lot of time to answer those questions with extra info they think applicable to our queries. It's so nice of them to have that GREAT web site that we can refer to. Thank you - www. twenj.com

This must've been topped by the same creep who topped the Art-can't-spell thread. Must wad through piles of sewerage to read a few funny or travel-related posts for morning entertainment/enlightenment today.

I just want to thank Ed&Julie. They really helped me with very useful information on my 1st trip to Italy. I commend what you are doing. Do not listen to the negative remarks and don't let this discourage you. I personally find your website very useful and keep up the good work!!!!
