EconomyCarRentals.com --- any experience?
I made a reservation for car rental with Kemwel for May. I have good experience with them from previous rentals in Europe, and every time I called for info, or change my reservation (we made quite a few changes) the agents were VERY nice and efficient.
Someone here suggested EconomyCarRentals.com as being less expensive. I checked their website, their rates for a comparable car, and they were very similar BUT their inclusive insurance coverage is a lot more comprehensive, and they claim their rates includes all local fees....
...It's almost TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, and I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with these people......

I used Economy in Greece in 2008. Everything was fine and the car was supplied by Avis. I didn't have occasion to use their insurance so I can't comment on that aspect. In the event of an accident they DO hit your credit card for the deductible and then reimburse you through their insurance if I understand correctly.
On the other hand, a mishap put a couple thousand euros damage on a Passat rented through AutoEurope (KemWel's parent) and the zero deductible CDW I had with them meant zero cost to me. No extra charges of any kind.
At the time of both rentals I did not have car rental insurance through my credit card. That may be the best way. Call your card company and see if they can add it.

I ordered my rental at Kemwel, but bought Amex's Primary Insurance for $25 which covers everything, plus medical and property protection inside the car. Our car insurer will not cover rental outside N. America. Besides, why would I want my insurer to be involved and have it on my record, if for $25 I can be fully covered by Amex.....

I used EconomyCarRentals.com in Turkey and Sicily with no problems. Because I take only the basic package from Kemwel or AutoEurope whenever possible, EconomyCarRentals tends to be more expensive in France, at least for me (I have the impression that the larger the cars, with automatic, the more prices tend to flatten out). But where the rental must be inclusive, EconomyCarRentals turns out to be cheaper.

My first impression of ECR was what made me doubt them. I called their toll-free number and the young lady on the other end of the line spoke English which I simply could not understand.... I kept asking her to repeat it again, but made very little sense of what she was saying....
....Which was never an issue with Kemwel or AutoEurope....

We rented a car at Bari airport through www.economycarrentals.com with their Italian partner LOCAUTO. Don't rent with this company. Search the internet and you will know why.
3 weeks after delivering the car my credit card showed a debit of 109,75 euros. This was charged for fuel. 35 liters could be 59 euros. To charge an additionally about 50 euro for "refuelling service" is outrageous.
I never signed a paper with this amount. I only have a copy of a document with some very small text. This document does not include the full text of the rental agreement. This way LOCAUTO can charge any amount they want. Don't rent with them.

I've had no problems with them in Sicily and Turkey. However, changing a contract may change the rates considerably. I shortened my contract by two days, and this raised the cost for the rental quite considerably (I should have refused and just returned the car early but I did not read the fine print). BTW, make sure that you return the car with a full tank of fuel and keep the receipt in case the local agency (www.economycarrentals.com is just a broker) tries to charge you for fuel.

We too have the Amex $24.95 per rental coverage. So far, we haven't had any reason to make a claim to see how it would work, but the coverage is excellent as is the price. There are exclusions, though, and it doesn't cover vehicles rented in Ireland or Italy (in Europe), and in several other countries.
I'm a fan of AutoEurope and Kemwel after many years of trouble-free rentals. On a couple of occasions when there was a problem, AE resolved it quickly and correctly.
