EATS in Zurich????
 

I've looked through the last 100 posts and couldn't find any restaurant recommendations. Please provide me with some of your favorites in Zurich.

I'll be traveling alone and like to sit at the bar. I'm not looking for fancy places with white table clothes, but the quality of food is still important to me.

It would help to know what your budget is. (Sorry, but to me EATS sounds like getting a hot dog from a cart. If you had said food or restaurants I would have a better idea.)

And just so you know - nothing in Switzerland is cheap. We took a client out to dinner in a moderate restaurant in Basel. With 2 shared appetizers, 4 main (regular) courses, 1 dessert and 2 bottles of the moderate wine the bill was almost $400.

OMG! There are zillions of places to eat--check Rick Steves or Frommers, etc

Zeughauskeller for traditional swiss food
Cafe Spruengli for the best sweets and light meals (expensive).
Zunfthaus zur Waag
Haus Hiltl on Sihlstrasse for an expansive vegetarian menu and Konditorei (Really nice, even if you eat meat).
Cheap Eats CAN be found at Coop Grocery stores--prepared foods section for sandwiches, quiches, treats.
There are many stand-up at outside tables for ethnic foods, and pizza shops crepe stands, especially along Niederdorfstrasse.
You don't say what time of year you are going or for how long, but Farmers markets, held Saturdays and I forget the other day, have many home-cooked items for buying and eating.
If you take the regional tram up to Uetliberg Mountain (12 minutes) there are restaurants at the top and along the way, Ex: Uto Kulm.
I think you can't go wrong for dining choices with a stroll down Niederdorfstrasse where all the restaurants have outside tables set up in warm seasons. I never felt uncomfortable dining alone there!

Oh, and Shopville... the extensive array of stores and eateries UNDER themain rail station. I had a really good take-away salad (big) and roll for about 9 CHF.
Plenty offood choices, but I liked eating in the city better, while people-watching.

nytraveler - you are right! My marketing skills may have failed me with the headline by getting your attention but confusing you as to what I am really looking for. I am traveling alone and on a budget - looking to spend around $20 (lunch) and $50 (dinner). I could care less whether it is a food truck on the side of the road or an actual restaurant, as long as the food is tasty and provides a new experience.

mooka4 - I will be in Zurich for 2 days in late August before traveling to Gimmelwald and then on to Valencia, Spain. Thank you so much for taking the time to provide me with tips! They sound really helpful and exactly what I'm looking for. I'm sure I can find something that fits my taste on the Niederdorfstrasse and Shopville.
