Eating Gluten Free in Pompeii and Sorrento
Hi all!
I'm headed to Italy in a few weeks with my mom and I have had lots of luck finding gluten free options in Rome, but less so in Sorrento. So I am looking for suggestions for restaurants in Sorrento that have gluten free menus and/or a separate cooking space for gluten free meals. Also, I'm curious what the eating situation will be in Pompeii. I'm sure there are restaurants on the site of the ruins? If so, anyone have any experience finding gluten free options in Pompeii? I'm wondering if I will be able to find anything there or if I should just plan on hitting a grocery store in Rome before we go and bringing my lunch with me? Or is it even allowed for me to bring food in? Thanks in advance, Amanda |
A freind went last year and he had zero problems. He has bad issues so is very careful. He even found gluten free pasta served in places. Otherwise he eats meat, cheese, veggies and fruit. I ate so many grilled and raw veggies that I was perfectly happy. I think you will be ok. They bought grocery items to snack on in the car.

I brought my own food to Pompeii. I just went shopping in the morning for sliced meats, tomatoes, cheese, fruit.

As a side note -NYTimes Science Pages had a blurb on those with gluten-free diets eating too much rice, which it says has traced of heavy-metals!

The Pompeii site has a cafeteria but I do not recall a restaurant as such. The choice is limited.

Thanks for your responses! I will probably grocery shop for Pompeii just to be safe!
