Easyjet Ryanair luggage req.

I need help with clarifying luggage restrictions on easyjet & ryanair. I've checked out their websites & it is somewhat confusing. On both it says you have a limit of checked luggage of 20kg. On Ryanair if you look under the baggage questions, it states that total baggage per person is 30kg plus they still charge you a fee for every checked item.

On easyjet it says under baggage:
- a free allowance of standard checked-in hold baggage to a maximum weight of 20kgs

- A fee per kilo for excess weight over these allowances is charged prior to departure.

- Each passenger is allowed a maximum hold baggage weight of 50 kilos including any sports equipment,

So first they say you can take 20kg, then they say 50kg?? Which is it?

you pay extra (lots extra) for above 20kg

You get the 20 kg of checked luggage for free. You can pay per kilogram from 20 kg up to 50 kg, and you aren't allowed more than 50 kg.

what everyone said -

10 kg allowed as carry on
20 kg checked free
21-50 kg allowed checked but BIG fees
50+ kg not allowed

"10 kg allowed as carry on"

With Easyjet the carryon weight is unlimited - it's the size of the carry on that's important, so if you wanted you could carry a solid lead suitcase on board as long as it met the size restrictions

yeah - I should have qualified - my comment was about the Ryan Air part of the question

janisj May 4th, 2006 09:26 AM

actually I sort of mucked it up again. Just suffice it to say - both airlines are very strict about their rules.

hey...Check baggage facts at Ryanair.com

Simple: Cabin baggage, 10 kilogram/22pounds free! Size limits.

Checked baggage, 20 kilogram/44 pounds limit. Fee, 2.50 pounds.

No checked baggage, no fee!

thanks for the clarification. I'm looking to book a one-way flight from Rome to London (I'm returning to the US via London) so I will have a large suitcase I will have to check, hence my questions. Still, paying for the extra kg (I definitely will not be going over 50kg) is still worth the cheap price.

If I purchased my RyanAir ticket before the imposition of a fee for checked luggage, do I still have to pay it?

alanRow May 4th, 2006 11:22 AM

It does appear on the Ryanair website

The answr is no BTW, Ryanair reduced the price of the ticket after 16th March to compensate for the new checked luggage charge

Thanks for the reference. Interestingly, they reduced the allowed weight of checked luggage for those who purchased their tickets before March 16. It used to be 20kg and now it is 15kg for free.

I flew on ryanair with a ticket purchased before the new restrictions and had no problems coming or going.

"Interestingly, they reduced the allowed weight of checked luggage for those who purchased their tickets before March 16."

Actually they INCREASED the allowed weight for those who booked from the 16th

Michael May 4th, 2006 04:25 PM

highledge,

good to hear, but what was the weight of your luggage?

StephCar May 4th, 2006 05:02 PM

Shoot...when I booked some txts for this summer to Berlin and Dublin I was asked both times (RyanAir) to use a drop down menu to select the number of bags. I choose the <1 Bag> option and it added 5 GBP to my fees. I did not know I could bring bags on FREE if I am not checking anything. Oh well, there goes 10 GBP......!
