Easyjet flex fare-should I go for it?
 

I will be traveling with the max sized carry on permitted by KLM as well as a medium sized knapsack. Easyjet has a more expensive ticket that allows you to change your date, get an assigned seat, includes bigger luggage allowance and I think faster boarding. Its about anothe 25E per ticket.
Any input would be much appreciated.

what is your exact itinerary that makes you think you would need this?

the max normal baggage allowance on easyjet is 20kgs for checked luggage, and for cabin baggage no bigger than 56 x 45 x 25cm incl wheels- which must fit comfortably into the baggage gauge. [copied and pasted from their website]. [one item only in the cabin, including handbags].

only if you think your are going to have more than this will you need the extra baggage allowance.

the assigned seat is no big deal [i've never seen anyone left without one] and it would only be worth paying the €25 extra for the possibility of having to change the date. is that a real possibility? if you already have a KLM flight booked, presumably you know which easyjet flight you are going to be booking.

Only 25 euros? I have just done a quick search on a flight I bought this morning between Madrid and Bilbao, and we are talking around 100 euros more each leg.

I fly often Easyjet between Spain, the UK and France, and I have still to see assigned seats, and regarding the priority when boarding, you won´t get to board before the other people who have bought Speedy Boarding or have the Easyjet Plus card.

Really, the best thing about the flex fare is, as Ann said, the possibility to change dates.

The key question is your carryon luggage, does it conform to Easyjet's requirements? If not, you'll have to check it which incurs a charge, more in the airport than online.

You have to weigh-up whether this flex package is worth the price. I would guess it's not unless you're likely to want to change your flight and you have to check your bag.

I've read easyjet is starting to charge for assigned seats on some routes. Up to now, you could pay extra for priority boarding to be among the first to get on. Most of the flights are so short that I don't bother with priority boarding.

there are 4 possible reasons for paying this supplement:

speedy boarding
I've taken many easyjet flights and never yet seen the point of speedy boarding, unless you have some overwhelming necessity to sit with your travelling companion; rarely have we been unable to sit reasonably close to each other, and usually we have had adjoining seats.

assigned seats
see above.
NB - the only point of speedy boarding is to be able to pick your seat - and if you've already chosen it, there's no point at all.

greater baggage allowance
I've posted the regulations above. if you are likely to exceed these, then it might be worth thinking about. otherwise forget it.

amending flight details/changing flight.
This DOES have some worth, but only if you think that for some reason you won't be able to make the flight. you have posted that you are flying from Amsterdam to Prague on a Friday night - why do you think that you might want to change the booking?

in short - personally i can't see the point, but you may like the 'security' it gives you to change your flight.

I tend to pay speedy boarding when I´m going to be in a hurry and want to get out soon of the plane, for example, when flying early Monday morning and going straight to work. Or when I have got a fantastic deal to London and I am thinking of checking my bag (there are always "liquids" to be brought for the friends there). In that case, it is well worth it if only for not having to wait in the normal queue.

Re the flight change option: it isn't without restrictions. If you look at the website you will see you can only change your flight within a certain time-frame.

" Unlimited changes to your flights within a 4 week period from 1 week before to 3 weeks after the original travel date."

I thought about this and decided it wasn't flexible enough for me!
