Easter Weekend in London
 

We're interested in museums and theater and eating. The guidebooks say that Good Friday, Easter, and Easter Monday are holidays.<BR>Is that weekend exactly the wrong time to be in London?<BR>Thanks for your replies.<BR>Ben

Several people have posted similiar questions on this board about London during many different holidays. It seems (although I've never seen anything about Easter specifically) that if the other holidays are any indication, the city will be fairly quiet. I would pick a different time to go.

Gone are the days when Good Friday was a day of religious observance (or at least quiet). These days, for people who live here, Easter weekend is a time for worshipping either DIY or various footballers or racehorses. You won't find much if anything closed, but churches and cathedrals will have the full quota of services. <BR>

Ben<BR><BR>Restaurants should be open as normal, Easter isn't like Christmas when only a handful of places are open on the day....<BR><BR>Best thing is to check the individual web sites for museums and theatre productions and see what they say. We've been in London several times over Easter and will be there again this April. We have not noticed a large number of things closed, but we have noticed a lot of extra tourists (from other parts of the UK in many instances) in London that weekend. Last yr. we were in London in mid-April as usual and Easter was in March so we really noticed the difference in crowds, etc. The tube will be full of people with luggage going to the various train stations a few days before Easter too. I believe the London Marathon is on April 11th this year and that causes a lot of crowds too (week before Easter).

Easter would be a very good time to come to London. The children are off school and it's sometimes the first chance of the year for people to go out and enjoy themselves. Many tourist attractions, like the boat trips to Kew Gardens and Hampton Court, start after being closed all winter. Easter is a holiday when people go out to enjoy the spring weather, and is quite unlike Christmas when everybody stays at home.
