Easter Weekend in Florence
Will be in Florence from Good Friday thru Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. What will be open? Will I have a hard time finding a restaurant open especially on Sunday? What about the Museums? Is there any special activities in Florence for this weekend?

I have the identical question with regard to Easter weekend in Rome. Thank you.

I will be in Florence the day before Easter, and wanted to get tickets for the David....does anyone know if you can order them over the internet??and the web address???

We were in Venice, Florence, & Rome the week before Easter 3 years ago. It was very busy, especially in Florence. We waited 2 1/2 hrs for the Uffizi. The line for the Accadamia was so long we tried again later. 45 minutes before closing, we walked right in and had the place to ourselves! This was before museum hours were extended and you could buy tickets in advance on the net. Are the advance tickets for certain times? Florence was really busy though, with lots of school tour groups in addition to all the others.

Just ordered tickets last week for the Uffizi and the Accademia (David) from the address Tiffany cites for Thursday and Good Friday. You can pick a day and a time, however I was given a slightly different time than I requested for one of the museums because of unavailability. Note--- the website says that you will receive an email confirmation within two business days, but it was 5 days before I got mine. Sure beats waiting in line when we get there.
We were in Florence in February. The wait for David was about 10 minutes. If you want to have an excellent meal go to La Posta Ristorante on Via Lamberti. It is run by a wonderful family and the food is excellent without being too expensive.
Easter 1999 in the USA is on April 4... April 11 in Greece, but when is it in Rome? I'll be in Greece during the 11th and then going on to Rome thereafter. Could someone tell me what is the David?

Tia, David (of Biblical fame) is one of Michaelangelo's greatest sculptures. It's been reproduced in more ways than you would care to count - including a dressable refrigerator magnet version!

We spent Easter weekend in Florence four years ago. We attended church at a wonderful English speaking church that held a Easter egg hunt for the children in the garden and a champaign reception for the adults at the same time. Later we toured the Biboli Gardens. The weather was beautiful. Lots of Germans visit Florence this weekend, so it is busy, but with Eureopeans, and that is part of the fun and part of the experience. Enjoy!

Carol
