Easter Services in London - where to find them?
Dear Brits and travelers - I would appreciate help with finding a fitting way to recognize Easter in London. I booked airline tickets at a great price, not realizing we would be arriving in London Easter morning from an overnight flight. We, my husband, 16 year old daughter and I arrive at Heathrow at 11:30 am and are staying in a hotel in South Kennsington. We are Christian and would like to recognize this special daywith a religious service. Can anyone help us? Thanks in advance.

You won't be in Kensington till about 1330, so morning services will be all over. That gives you three choices:
1. Attend whichever christian service (most often Catholic Mass) is being held at the Heathrow chapel of St George's, immediately above the tube station. Sunday services are actually more frequent than the airport website says 2. Go to one of the well-known evensongs at St Paul's or Westminster Abbey. These aren't particularly Paschal, but the choirs are excellent 3. Go to an evening service. There's a list of major service times in those central London churches that take their choirs seriously at www.tiny.cc/Qow0x . However, few of them have choirs during their evening service. Decoding the denomination of these churches can be tricky, but there is (highly arcane) logic in the listing: if you need to know, come back and we'll explain |
You won't be in to London and to your hotel untill probably 2:00 or there abouts.
Where are you staying? We may be able to direct you to a relatively nearby service. But I might recommend you try Evensong at 3:15 at St Paul's. Or they will have an evening service at 6:00. |
Oh - I was posting the same time as flanner. same basic info . . . .
