Easter in Frankfurt ?
 

Have just realised that the weekend we have booked in Frankfurt, as part of a RTW trip, will fall at Easter . Guess a lot of things will be shut? We like walking around, just looking at different views and aspects and people, but is there anything special happening that weekend? Our hotel is right in the city. Thanks.

Shops will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday (as on almost all sundays), and on Easter Monday. All three are public holidays.
Saturday will be a normal day with stores & shops open.

Museums do not follow a regulated schedule. You can expect some to be closed on Good Friday. Some will be open on Easter Monday because it is a holiday (since museums usually are closed on mondays). You can expect all museums to be open on Sat/Sun.

Restaurants are not affected, of course, and will be open on all those days.
Some cities have ordinances re. closures on Good Friday which usually affect clubs or other nightlife. But I don't know if Frankfurt has those. I would doubt it.

Public transportation will run on a sunday/holiday schedule on Fri, Sun, Mon - but with no real effect on you when you use downtown transportation like the subway.

Easter is more a family fest in Germany. Many people will use the extra days off for short vacations or to see relatives. So typical tourist destinations in the nearby Rhine valley or river cruises will be packed when the weather is fine.

You will probably find several Easter/spring related activities going on, e.g. festivals, music, etc. But don't expect anything too spectacular.

Danke Schoen, Cowboy! We arrive from Istanbul on the Saturday, and hope to stock up for the German part of our trip on the Saturday, so it's good to know the shops will be open then. I remember a great Easter Market along the Rhine in Cologne some time ago, and thought there may be something similar in Frankfurt - we'll find out when we get there. Thanks again.
