Easter Holidays in Europe

Hello,

I am planning a trip to Europe from 3/31/01 to 4/17/01. This puts me there during Good Friday and Easter. I pretty much know that Italy is shut down during those days, but can anyone tell me if I need to avoid France and Spain during this time as well?

Thanks.

Jennifer

jennifer: i was in venice for the week preceding and the weekend of easter in 1999 and nothing was shut down. museums, restaurants, shops, trains, hotels, etc. were all bustling. can't speak for france & spain during easter.

I was in Rome for Easter this year. I was quite worried in planning the trip that we would be stuck with nothing to do, nothing to eat, etc. Actually, pretty much everything was open. The Vatican area was very busy with tourists and such, museums were open, no problem finding restaurants, etc. (I made a trip in 1993, and it seems since then that things close down less in the middle of the day, on Sundays etc., then they did in 1993). Given that Rome was functioning on Easter Sunday, if you are in France or Spain, I would imagine that things will also be open too.

I spent two Easter breaks in Spain and the only day many restaurants and attractions were closed was Good Friday. The local pageants more then made up for that.

Michele

Many visit at Easter in order to see the festivities, especially in Spain.Accomodation will be expensive in Holy Week (the week before Easter) in places famous for Easter celebrations eg Seville.
