Got it. would you recommend drivng for some?

I would see no need for a car for the places you suggest.

Also, it's more expensive and limiting to find a hotel with parking included (even if you are willing to pay extra). My friends drove to Salzburg last summer and wanted to go to Hallstatt for the day and they could hardly park their rental car.

Many people on this board love https://www.seat61.com for help in arranging train travel.

Only between Salzburg and Vienna if you want to see the area along the Danube.

The drive from Salzburg to Vienna is picturesque for about the first 45 through the Salzkammergut; then unless you detour at Melk for the last hour and follow the Wachau Valley for about 30 minutes along the Danube, before routing back to the autobahn, it's just uninspiring autobahn all the way. Personally I would train from Salzburg to Vienna, and, time permitting, take a day trip to the Wachau Valley.

Also keep in mind that you are traveling over Easter; there will be shorter hours and closings from the Saturday before Easter and through Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

are you going to Europe for Easter or do you mean Eastern Europe, I am thinking the former as these places are not in eastern Europe. Cars in the cities are more of a hinderance , buses and trains between these places plentiful ,cheap and reasonably quick, over what sort of time period will you be visiting all these places.

The assumption is that one has to drive on the autobahn. I try to avoid such roads unless I'm in a hurry, at which point the train between Salzburg and Vienna would be preferable.
