Easter 2013 - Solo female travelling- Ideas please!

Hi there,

I am planning to travel from London by myself this Easter, and was wondering if i could get some suggestions for places in Europe (or close by)

I'm 22, female, very very energetic but would like a slightly laid back holiday. I dive, so that would be a plus but not a necessity. Would prefer a place with good scenic beauty and maybe some museums, where i can take a well needed break. Would prefer warmer climates, but again, not a necessity.

Im only concenred that most cities would be completely shut down during Easter, which could be slightly hard since im not christian, and would not know what to do with myself for four days without any shops/attractions might get a bit hard!

My budget is a bit on the mid-lower end for the city - any places very popular for Easter religiously and hence overbooked would be out of question.

Hope someone can help!!

Cheers

How about Greece ? Greek Orthodox Easter will be celebrated May 5 so nothing will be closed at the end of March.

I spent the week before Easter in 2012 solo in Málaga watching the Semana Santa processions. It was a fabulous experience. I stayed at the Hotel Don Curro, which was very pleasant and also reasonably priced--around $100. It is located near the harbor and the Avenida Principal, one of the prime places to observe the processions.

Here's a link to some of my pictures.

If you decide to do this, I suggest that you rent a seat, which is not cheap--about 100 euros. You get a much better view.

The weather was okay while I was there, but it wasn't swimming weather.

Any town in Southern Spain would be great but if you want to go to Seville, book your hotel today. It will be two or three times the standard rate but the Semana Santa is a great event. I also saw several processions in Granada. Madrid and Malaga and many of the smaller towns have Easter week processions and it might be easier to find cheaper accomodation there.
I don't know how warm the water would be in early April on the Costa del Sol since I'm not a beach person but many of the beach resorts would be near places that have a procession during Easter Week.

No place will have most shops/attractions closed during that time except perhaps on Easter Day - otherwise things will be as normal pretty much - the week before and after Easter is a hectic travel week in southern Europe as many Europeans get the week before and the week after Easter off and often head to places like Italy and Spain and southern France. Book hotels early if in seaside resorts or mecca tourist cities.
