Early Morning Tours in Amsterdam

I'm landing in Amsterdam for a cruise late May. We land at 7:45am but don't need to board the ship until around 2pm. Any ideas on something to do for the 6 hours?

I presume you are computing that 8am to 2pm is 6 hours?
I doubt you have that much time. If the plane lands at 7:45am and you are travelling with typical cruise luggage load requiring luggage retrieval at the airport, you would not be arriving in Amsterdam city until around 9am.

Then, unless you have someone else taking care of luggage not needed for your day trip at the airport, you need time to take care them until you can board your ship. You also need time to get to the cruise dock and perhaps time for lunch.

Assuming you can leave your luggage at the cruise centre in the morning you could just walk around the city centre or maybe take a canal boat trip. As Greg says you won't actually have 6 hours but should have a couple of hours to see a little of the city, and grab a bite to eat, before your cruise boards.

There are a lot of things to see and do in Amsterdam. But without knowing what you like it is difficult to recommend things.

If you like museums there are a lot of really good ones. If you prefer outdoor things there are parks and bike tours (with rented bikes). Then there are canal boat tours and the Hop On Hop Off bus.

But Greg is right. You don't actually have six hours.

And with the cúrrent terrorist threat you may have problems finding a place to leave your bags. There are lockers at the central station, but I don't know if they are open. I can't find any current info on it through Google. You need to ask someone who is in Amsterdam right now.
