Early morning flight from BCN - where to stay

We are planning to return from Girona in the evening by train (probably to Barcelona Sants station) and have to catch a flight at 7.50 a.m. to Seville the next morning. To be on the safe side, we would like to get to the airport at 6.50 a.m. Where should we book our hotel for the evening so that we can reach the airport easily in the morning ? What would be the best mode of transport ?

It might be far more relaxing to simply take a train between Barcelona and Seville and avoid having to go to airports or take flights.

The 08:30 direct high-speed AVE train from Barcelona Sants arrives Seville 14:02.

Or the 15:50 arrives 21:15.

Fares from around 45 euros at www.renfe.com or www.loco2.com

That's centre to centre through the countryside on Spain's classy high-speed train network - the flight will take the best part of 4 hours once trains to the airport and check-in is included.

There is also an overnight train I believe rolling between Barcelona and Seville - save on cost of a hotel and save time over flying - for lots on Spanish trains and night trains check out Man in Seat 61 who posts above, his commercial site - www.seat61.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

You can stay any place. I stayed in Eixample and an early morning taxi (depart at 6:00) took no more than 30 minutes to the airport - no traffic. I would stay in Bari Gotic and have a final evening in Barcelona.

Best mode of transport - taxi. Why mess with public transportation when you have to catch a flight.

I agree with the above. Instead of messing with moving to Barcelona, changing hotels, and getting to the airport early, why not take a train from Girona to Seville? 6 hours, 1 change in Barcelona. Relax, have a picnic lunch with wine, nap, and arrive refreshed.

I've stayed at Barcelo Sants before (it's above the train station). I think the first train to the airport leaves about 5:15, but you should check. It takes about 20 minutes.

I agree it isn't that hard to get to the airport by 6:30 if you leave Barcelona at 6, which shouldn't be difficult. So you could stay anywhere within reason, but I myself would choose an area more in the direction of the airport, not Bari Gotic. There are a lot of good locations closer than that. You could stay around placa d'Espanya, for example. Easy to get places by metro, but on the way to the airport anyway. The airport bus actually stops there, but you don't need that so early (if it is running then, anyway).

An hour at the airport before the flight is a little tight, IMO, unless you have carry on only and boarding passes in hand.... and are not flying Ryanair where if you are NON EU you will need to get boarding passes stamped before security at their ticket window.I'd get there around 6:20 to be safe.

We stay near Pl. Catalunya (city center where Ramblas and P. de Gracia meet, more or less) and catch the Aerobus to the airport. Less than 6 euros, I think it takes 30-35 minutes.

First bus is at 5:30 AM, then another every 10 minutes until 6:50 AM. Pickup is across from the El Cortes Ingles store.

Note there's a bus for T1 and a different bus for T2, so get on the right bus.

http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...transport.html explains multiple options, including Aerobus

It is easy to get a taxi from anywhere in the center to the airport but I have also stayed at the Tryp at the airport and it was fine (and the decor is certainly trippy). But you should read current reviews.

If you decide to stay in the center, I wouldn't pick a hotel in the Barri Gotic.

Just read an above post: I have been on the airport shuttle train in Barcelona when it has broken down and been delayed. You need to get a taxi.

After reading all the comments, have decided to just take a taxi - maybe a little more expensive but at least it's less of a hassle !

A taxi from central Barcelona would be some 25-30€ and some 15-minutes (8-9 miles) early in the morning. Even closer is Plaça Espanya, some 500-600 meters from Sants train station. From here it would be less than 10 minutes to the airport: http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/Engl...LvoL8vdrj3uIuo

Some hotels in the Plaça Espanya area:
