Early logistics for Turkey

I’m in the very early stages of planning a 2 weeks trip in early October 2013 to Turkey. I’ve done some reading, and I think the areas we want to explore are: Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Ephesus.

We will have 13 full days in Turkey (not counting the day we land and leave) – is this too much? What is the best order to do this, logistically? We will rent a car when needed, and fly when appropriate. Thanks

What I mean..is 4 locations too much for 13 days? Not if 13 days in Turkey is too much, I know it's not enough :)

We traveled for 9 days by car from Izmir to Cappadocia, which included stops along the way. You may want to take a look at my trip report; click on my name to find it.

Michael,
Thanks, a great report of what seems like a wonderful trip. I enjoyed all the details, restaurants and food descriptions, and the travel stories. If you could do all that in 9 days, I am sure we’ll be fine with 14. Actually, maybe we should add something else?

You mentioned staying 4 nights in Cappadocia, but I could not figure out how long you stayed at the other locations. Did you wish you had stayed longer/shorter in any place?

I will definitely go back to your report with a map in hand, so I can follow it better.

Loved the pictures – thanks for sharing and reposting them on flickr, all the shutterfly links are broken.

I think you can do it, and do it in a rewarding way. Of course it depends on what you want to see and experience, but one option would be to spend at least 5 or better 6 full days in Istanbul, at least 3 days in Cappadocia, 1 in Pamukkale, and 1+ (2 nights, so you have a single long day) in Ephesus/Selcuk, and a day or 2 "lost" to transit (but not really "lost," because there are lots of interesting places to stop en route).

You might find my trip report helpful - just click on my name to find it.

Enjoy!

Imho . . .

3-4 Cappadocia, 1-2 Ephesus, 1 Pamukkale, the rest in Istanbul. Then there are those pesky travel days . . . make sure that you spend some time relaxing.

We did similar in 16 days (minus Pamukkale) but we had a few days in Cirali as downtime. We had a few too many early morning flights.

That was 9 days on the road. Leave time for Istanbul.

Michael, kja, Ian, thank you all. I have a lot of reading to do now, and a lot of pictures to look at, but this is great. I have a basic plan, which will probably change as I read more about Turkey, but is good for now.
Thanks again, I'll be back with more questions.
