Early at Bermondsey
I've read numerous web sites that say you need to arrive at Bermondsey Market Friday mornings no later than 5:00AM to get the "good stuff". Not really sure what the definition of good stuff is, but I'm amazed that a weekly market could have that much of a product turnover to require getting there that early. I guess my wife and I will be there by 5:00 when we are back in the UK this fall.

Believe it or not......Bermondsey Market attracts many antique dealers and "intense collectors." It really gets tons of people at 5-5:30 AM visiting the Market. If you are really on "a mission" to pick out something special and are a dealer then go early. There are other markets that you don't have to go to that early (Camden Passage and Camden Lock) but the tradition at Bermondsey is to aget there at the crack of dawn. I only visited Bermondey once and was there at about 7:00AM, and of course there was still a ton of merchandise and bric a brac to shop for. I am "over" that now, and would probably not go there so early again. However, you may enjoy the "HUNT" and be the early bird. Let us know if you end up at Bermondsey.

The other tip I read was to make sure you have a flashlight with you so you can see what you are buying. That really cracked me up. I'll be sure to post a report on the bargains we get TrendGirl.

That's right, I forgot....I heard about bringing a flashlight too!
It could be fun, there wase alot of Silver objects at Bermondsey when I went, and a wide variety of different collectables. I was on the hunt for Art Deco and did find a few things. It is fun to visit the markets in London. |
I am afraid that I am one of those slothful people that had to have coffee and wake up later than 4am to go to Bermondsey.
There were still many many people there, it was fun but the prices are high, we saw no bargains. Of course, those bargains might have been saved for those who arrived with flashlights at 5:30~ We bought some match strikers. |
