early am paris

I know Paris is the city of light, but I tend to be a morning person, an early morning person. I am content to walk the beautiful streets of Paris, but I still love a shot of caffeine. What cafes open early (around 6 or 7) in the 1st, 3rd or 4th arron?

Maybe you don't know about Jacques Dutronc's very famous song 'Il est quatre heures, Paris s'eveille'. (It's 4 am, Paris is getting awake).
An oldie, but a goldie.

Don't worry, you'll get your shot of caffeine! :o)

Sorry, make it 'five'!
Il est cinq heures, Paris s'eveille.
That's correct.

When I stayed in the 5th a few years ago, I would head out early and watch the street sweepers and go to the cafe accross the street. The other early morning dwellers would come into the cafe. It was interesting as it is not the same as your local starbucks (but hey, everyone needs caffeine). and the bakers in the basement would bring up the fresh bread. Hit the streets on the first day and find a cafe, shop that is open. Go everyday afterwards. You will be on a first name basis with the people who work there by the time you leave.

My favorite early morning spot is along Rue Montogueil near Les Halles, while they are setting up the early morning market. Lots of cafes and coffee spots.
