e-mail addresses visible?

Not every post, but I've noticed this on a few posts, like this one:

BeachBoi Apr 25th, 2003 06:59 AM

Its an option available on your Profile.

elberko Apr 25th, 2003 07:05 AM

I wonder why I didn't notice that before?

DiAblo Apr 25th, 2003 07:45 AM

Drugs?
Alcohol?
Attention deficit syndrome?

elberko Apr 25th, 2003 07:56 AM

Uh-oh.
Now I'm wondering about the twinkling lights I saw on the Eiffel tower...

x_x_x Apr 25th, 2003 08:07 AM

Elberko,
Fodors added new features yesterday: the option to display e-mail addresses, the option to e-mail a thread, the 'read -the -latest- message- posted- to- this- thread' option, and more. So if you weren't logged on to Fodors yesterday that is probably why you didn't notice the newest bells and whistles until this morning. :-D

rex Apr 26th, 2003 07:28 PM

Does it seem like it has become nearly impossiblt to post a second message on a given thread since these new features were added?

Though I notice some people have succeeded in doing so - - MichelleY has two posts on a thread started by fairsat - - the thread with the lengthy post by
Daphne.

Curious...

Best wishes,

Rex

Betsy Apr 26th, 2003 07:37 PM

Rex, I'm not sure what you're asking about not being able to post a second message on a given thread. Most threads have muliple messages added to the original, so it doesn't seem as if anyone is having difficulty. Could you clairfy?

rex Apr 26th, 2003 07:53 PM

Let's see if I can post again to this thread.

rex Apr 26th, 2003 07:53 PM

Very odd.

rex Apr 26th, 2003 07:55 PM

Tried again on the Honeymoon thread (fairsat/Daphne) - - and I repeatedly get this:

We're so sorry, we're currently unable to display the page you requested. That URL may have expired, or we may be working feverishly on that particular part of our site.
We recommend that you either use your browser's BACK button, or start fresh at the Fodors.com home page.

rex Apr 26th, 2003 07:56 PM

So, so strange - - and I have gotten that same message several other times when trying to post to a thread where I have previously posted.

But obviously I can post repeatedly to THIS thread.

Betsy Apr 26th, 2003 07:59 PM

Hmmm, Rex. Haven't gotten that message once since the new features have been added, and I've posted lots. Could it have something to do with the fact that I'm using a Mac? Or maybe it's just karma.

Betsy Apr 26th, 2003 08:04 PM

Just added a test post to that thread without any problem.

andy Apr 26th, 2003 08:08 PM

Rex--
I, too, have had a hard time posting replies--

In fact, when I'd open up the "preview your post" area, and then read and try to hit "post"--it does not post most of the time....

red63corvette Apr 26th, 2003 08:15 PM

Rex,

I've run into the same problem. This was especially frustrating when I was trying to thank someone for sharing information with me.

~ Sheryl

icithecat Apr 26th, 2003 08:16 PM

I have not used the 'preview option yet.

icithecat Apr 26th, 2003 08:17 PM

post number two using 'preview'.

icithecat Apr 26th, 2003 08:19 PM

Now I have refreshed using the 'Europe' button and I will 'preview'

icithecat Apr 26th, 2003 08:21 PM

I did notice that on the second post, the 'post' button was on the right, and a 'delete' button was now on the left.

Could your bifocals be fooling you?

Bootman4U Apr 27th, 2003 04:20 AM

This entire thread confirms to me anyway that what is really needed here is a CHATROOM as well as a message board.

Kristinelaine Apr 27th, 2003 04:23 AM

I'm glad someone mentioned this as I have had serious problems posting replies. I get the same message as those above. Hope this goes through.

elberko Apr 27th, 2003 04:52 AM

I opened this thread again this morning with some trepidation. REALLY relieved it's NOT 21 people telling me I'm an idiot...

Kavey Apr 27th, 2003 12:25 PM

lol elberko...

:)

Kavey Apr 27th, 2003 12:26 PM

Actually what's bugging me is that replying to a thread returns me to the top of the first 50 threads, even if I'm down at 250 or something.

Sheesh.

Budman Apr 27th, 2003 04:08 PM

Kavey, hit the back button on your brouser (I use IE), and it will bring you back to where you were after you post.

icithecat Apr 27th, 2003 08:09 PM

While we are at it, what is with the 'dirtyBit=1' at the end of the URLs?

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...amp;dirtyBit=1

Kavey Apr 28th, 2003 12:31 AM

Thanks Budman
That's what I did, but it's frustrating that everytime new features are introduced old ones are lost - insufficient beta testing perhaps.
Oh well...

Andre Apr 28th, 2003 04:45 AM

Think I've found a workaround to the problem with the "so sorry" error message when trying to post: it only appears when you've called up threads by clicking on your own alias (maybe also on someone else's - haven't checked).

So, if you want to post on a thread you've called up that way, just click on the thread title before posting your reply - voila!

Suppose someone should e-mail the editors about this glitch... anyone?

Andre

Kristinelaine Apr 28th, 2003 04:55 AM

Thanks so much, Andre, for the tip! It works! I don't know why, but it does work! Hooray!

Kavey Apr 28th, 2003 05:30 AM

Andre
I've had that error message too and hadn't noticed it occurred when I called threads up using my name (which I do a lot).
Will use your workaround, and see if it helps.
Thanks for sharing it.

Andre Apr 28th, 2003 07:46 AM

You're welcome - I also e-mailed [email protected] with a link to this thread. Let's see what happens...

Andre

rex Apr 28th, 2003 08:28 AM

Likewise, solved my problem too.
