Durkheimer Wurstmarkt
I would be interested in hearing about any experiences folks have had with the Durkheimer Wurstmarkt. It sounds like a mini-Oktoberfest with wine instead of beer. Is that an accurate description? We are thinking about going on a Friday. How crowded is it? Any other information will be welcome.

It's pretty crowded, but a lot of fun! It's about the local wines with rides and food stalls. We had a great time. Wish I were going this year.

I - your description is pretty accurate, it is just smaller than Oktoberfest.
I have been multiple times. I think it is best enjoyed in the afternoon, before the crowds. Then, you have a chance to talk to the vinters and sample the wines without having to wait in line. When I was there in on a weekend night there were so many people you could hardly move. It was difficult to enjoy. |

The big tents get VERY crowded in the evening, with the crowds sometimes out of control (dancing on the tables etc.) It can be a lot of fun but just as with Octoberfest it´s not necessary for everyone. |
we went with german friends more ywears ago than i care to remember.
it's a blast. make sure you have a designated driver that isn't you - the wine is sold in 1/4 litre glasses. do go, i stil remember how much fun we had, especially the wine barrel that's large enough to take a band, and watching the people who are taknig the sure walking round the spa with plastic macs on. regards, ann |

Rather 1/2 litre ones :-) You can of course order "Weinschorle" - but most tents mix 4:1 (wine to sparkling water) |
oh yes, altamiro, I do believe you're right. OMG.
