Durkheimer Wurstmarkt
 

I would be interested in hearing about any experiences folks have had with the Durkheimer Wurstmarkt. It sounds like a mini-Oktoberfest with wine instead of beer. Is that an accurate description? We are thinking about going on a Friday. How crowded is it? Any other information will be welcome.

It's pretty crowded, but a lot of fun! It's about the local wines with rides and food stalls. We had a great time. Wish I were going this year.

I - your description is pretty accurate, it is just smaller than Oktoberfest.

I have been multiple times. I think it is best enjoyed in the afternoon, before the crowds. Then, you have a chance to talk to the vinters and sample the wines without having to wait in line. When I was there in on a weekend night there were so many people you could hardly move. It was difficult to enjoy.

The big tents get VERY crowded in the evening, with the crowds sometimes out of control (dancing on the tables etc.) It can be a lot of fun but just as with Octoberfest it´s not necessary for everyone.

we went with german friends more ywears ago than i care to remember.

it's a blast. make sure you have a designated driver that isn't you - the wine is sold in 1/4 litre glasses.

do go, i stil remember how much fun we had, especially the wine barrel that's large enough to take a band, and watching the people who are taknig the sure walking round the spa with plastic macs on.

Rather 1/2 litre ones :-)

You can of course order "Weinschorle" - but most tents mix 4:1 (wine to sparkling water)
