During Octoberfest: is only beer available?

First of all, when is Octoberfest in Munich this year?

Secundo, is beer the only beverage served during Octoberfest (while seated under the tent)?
Would it be ridiculous to go to Octoberfest and try to drink something else than beer (wine for example)?

Thanks for your help.

I hope they have diet pepsi.

xxx May 24th, 2002 02:22 PM

In October?

xxx000 May 24th, 2002 02:23 PM

Octoberfest is always in September, not October. Sorry, not sure of exact dates this year.

xxx May 24th, 2002 02:28 PM

http://www.muenchen-tourist.de/englisch/oktoberfest/

says Oktoberfest is 21 Sept to 06 Oct 2002. There is one Beer Tent called the Wein- und Sektzelt (wine and sparkling wine tent) which suggests you will find other drinks.

Sorry, incomplete address - this is better:

http://www.muenchen-tourist.de/engli...nleitung_e.htm

There's also an English version on the official site
http://www.oktoberfest.de/en/

xxx May 24th, 2002 02:35 PM

Excuse me, but the website I gave is also in English.

prosit May 24th, 2002 02:44 PM

Exactly, that's why I said "also"...

Lynda May 24th, 2002 02:45 PM

Thanks for your replies.

Would you suggest that I should wait to be able to attend Octoberfest to visit Munich, or should I go ahead anyway at the end of August - begining of September and not see the festival?

Can we make advance reservations? Are people under 21 allowed? Is there drink minimum? Is any food allowed? And if yes, do they serve french fries with that?

slider May 24th, 2002 07:28 PM
Bring your own ketchup for those fries.

There is Soda, Water, and Wine also available in most tents (don't drink soda or water though unless you are under 12) There are shot stands through the carnival grounds, and of course soda, water, juice.

There are no drink minimuns, there is no age limits, and I never saw anyone carry in their own food.

The festival is great, if you could plan your vacation, to see it I would do so. But before you completly change your plans--call hotels first, they book up fast, and it is getting late to try to find one.

Most of the beer tents are just that- beer tents, however, there are other tents that do serve wine, sparkling water, etc. Probably not the best selection, but there are alternatives. One sample of the beer, though and I dont think you'll drink anything else. The best in the world! Oktoberfest kicks off on Sept 22nd and goes well into October.
Hope to see you there. Book hotel early!

In most tents you can get a variety of food and drinks. There's no problem with adults ordering something non-alcoholic either. It doesn't matter, at all. Drink what you want! You might try a Radler, it's half beer and half lemon soda. Quite tasty!

The Octoberfest is generally the last two weeks in September. It ends the first Sunday after the first Monday in October. I have been there 5 times, the first 4 when I lived in Germany, the 5th last year. There are 14 bier tents each holding about 4000 people. You must get there by mid afternoon if you want to get a seat. There are a couple of tents that serve other drinks, but each tent is sponsored by a bier company and mostly serve bier. I believe that the drinking age is 16 and don't really know if anyone younger would enjoy it. The bier is served in liter glasses, no other size available. There is also a midway with rides, and stands where you can buy soft drinks, wursts. You can also find wild boars on a spit. The tents do now serve a variety of foods, but not the greatest compared to restaurants.
