Dunkirk War Graves
We are taking my Father in Law to Dunkirk next week as part of the Government funded Hero's return scheme. He has asked to visit the War Graves and I wondered if anyone had any advice for our trip, we are not really sure whats actually there. Tried a Google search but didn't really come up with very much. He is in his late 80's so we won't try and overdo things on the day, a short itinary would be ideal, thanks in advance

There is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission section in the Dunkirk Town Cemetery, which includes a number of First World War graves and about 800 Second World War graves. At the cemetery is also the Dunkirk Memorial on which are carved the names of 4500 servicemen from 1939-40 with no known grave.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website has a search feature for individual graves. It is at: http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx |
Many thanks for the information - do you know if there is anything else nearby that Veterans normally visit? Sorry to sound so vague but we really do not know what is there to visit with him
