We always make our own itineraries with all flight, hotel and rental car info including addresses and contact info and leave this with people at home (in case they need to get us and cell isn't working and also carry a copy in my purse, in my carry-on and also in my checked luggage.

As for copies of passport and credit card info - just acct # and phone number for each card in case there is a problem (has not happened yet in more than 100 trips to europe).

I don't think there's anything wrong with using every tool available, electronic and traditional.
