Dubrovnik to Mostar to Sarajevo by car
Hi - my boyfriend and I want to round out our Croatia trip with a 3-day side trip to Mostar and Sarajevo. I'm surprised at the total lack of information online about driving from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo. Does anyone know exactly how long it takes from Dubrovnik to Mostar and then to Sarajevo?
Is there a driving map or company that may have them that you would suggest?
Has anyone done this before and is is difficult? Are the signs confusing? I'm not sure I want to get lost in the middle of Bosnia.
I've looked everywhere and cannot find one.
Thanks!
stephanie

Steph:
Mostar is almost exactly midway between Dub and Sara...150 kms from Dub, and then another 150 kms to Sara...about 180 miles altoghether one-way. The road from Dub is fairly flat and well engineered...it's an "E" road (European
Highway, E-65, and later E-73). meaning that it must maintain the road according to strict European highway requirements. The stretch from Jablonica (Yablonitsa) to Sara is very mountainous with a very long tunnel..great scenery...I drove that road in 1983 when it was under the most massive construction project I had ever seen..not much room for detours, thus
long waiting sessions...but it's a good one now.
Sarajevo is a city in almost complete recovery from the war...I was last there when it was preparing for the February 1984 Winter Olympics and it sure did itself proud.
Be sure to stop at picturesque Pocitelj
(before Mostar).

I've driven this route, and also elsewhere in Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina. I've also driven around in all 3 cities.
Stay on the main road and it's really easy driving. Sarajevo city centre is well signed and easy to get around. Mostar is not so well signed if you are heading out in a different direction to the main E73/65, but the bridge (Stari Most) and Old Town are signed and easy to find.
From Mostar onwards it is incredibly scenic. The last stretch from Jablanica up the mountains is very windy but it is two lanes in many places so easy to overtake slow vehicles.
I seem to remember the Mostar4 Dubrovnik bit being about 2 hours. Sarajevo to Mostar is also around 2 hours.
I posted two trip reports here, both of which contain quite a bit about driving in Bosnia & Herzegovina, some of which you may find useful.

My trip report describes the route we took from Mostar to Stolac to Trebinje to Dubrovnik. I am not sure of total driving time --2 1/2 to 3 hours? We stopped a few times en route
