Dubrovnik--recommended excursions?

I will spend several days in Dubrovnik at the end of May and have 3-4 extra days. I would like to stay in an atmospheric historic town within 2-3 hours travel of Dubrovnik with a pretty setting. My first choice would be Hvar Town but it is too far. Any suggestions for alternatives closer to Dubrovnik? Thank you.

Towns don't come any more atmospheric or historic than Dubrovnik, but how about Korcula? There are daily buses as well as Jadrolinija's coastal ships, so it's an easy journey.

I'm not sure about staying there, but you might look into a day trip into Montenegro from Dubrovnik, the scenery was beautiful, there are delightful resort towns and a UNESCO site at Kotor. I think there are bus tours that go over.

I saw a recommendation for Atlas tour company out here somewhere, here's their website

Yes! We did a one day bus tour from Dubrovnik (booked with Atlas) to Montenegro. It was a wonderful day. Normally I hate any kind of tour, but this was great and we accomplished a whole lot more than we ever could have done on our own. It is beautiful scenery. You stop at a couple of towns and interesting buildings, and have a pleasant stop in the late afternoon at a small resort town with a walled castle.

Not an excursion, but we had a wonderfull dinner at Konavoski Dvori Restaurant in a country setting in an old water mill on the Ljuta River.Direction towards the airport.Whole lambs, pigs, on spits, trout from a large pond, watresses in costum. I rated this in my top 10. Then again, dining experiences of all time.

dugi otok:
The restuarant sounds like a delightful experience. How did you get there? We will not have a car; is it too far for a taxi ride?

Konavski dvori is a great place (not only restaurant) but is off routes and no public traffic to get there. Even taxi ride can be expensive. I suggest You a whole day trip called Konavle jeep safari, which besides avanturistic drive around Konavle valley includes also lunch there.
