Lolo12, sounds like a great trip. We too were torn between Montenegro and Mostar so we decided to do both. We plan on taking an Atlas tour of Montenegro from Dubrovnik one day, and will be staying overnight in Mostar (we will have a car) after we leave Dubrovnik. From Mostar we will stay in Trogir for 3 nights before we head back to Dubrovnik for our overnight in London before coming home. Can't wait!

tcreath--have you made your reservations in Trogir? My daughter and I just returned from our trip to Croatia & Budapest and while in Trogir we stayed at a very cute, clean and well located apartment. I just booked it on a whim since I could not find anything about it on Fodor's or elsewhere and we were very pleasantly surprised. It's called Palace Stafileo and the website is trogironline.com/stafileo. The apt. was small but so incredibly clean. It had a very small kitchen area but large enough for several days. Tomislav and his daughter were very accommodating. Hope this helps you or someone who needs help in locating a place in Trogir!

Happy Cheesehead & Tracy,
That was the price quoted me by Ljubica. Where is the price written on the website because it states that prices are available upon request? Strange that we all got different quotes.I will definitely bring with me a printout of her reply to show the quoted rate.Maybe I'm paying less because it's A2 with the black sofa.

Tracy & HC,
Note also that the website says that they charge 30% more for up to 3 days stay.I'm staying 4 nights.

Hi Syl:

Well, it looks like you got a good deal! That apartment #2 was 60 euro per night in 2005 for the month of September.

I have seen the 2005 prices for the rooms from another website that the apt owners used. They just came on Dubrovnik on line a very short time before I booked, and Ljubica had sent me a link to their other website. I think I was able to turn that page into a Tiny URL: http://tinyurl.com/ersst

Tracy - you are below the listed price too - are you staying in apt 1? I guess I must just be a doofus for agreeing to the list price, LOL. Since we arrive 9/4 and leave the 8th, maybe they did not want to deal on the price so early in the month. In any case, even 80 euro seems pretty reasonable to me, so I won't sweat it.

I just HOPE that view and terrace is as nice as it looks!!

I could be of more assistance regarding some of the questions (where is grocery store, how far from old town) if I knew exactly where the place was. Ask how many blocks above or below Frana Supica street it is and let me know. But, from a comparison of the views it looks like it wasnt higher than our place and that it is closer in from the south so your walk should be less than the one we had. There are little grocery stores and bakeries all over the place so it shouldn't be much of a problem anyhow. I did notice some restraunts in the old town advertising breakfast as well. Also ask if there is any space (communal living room etc.)besides your room that you can use. ANd finally there is no laundromat that our B & B owner knew of and she did offer to do a couple loads for us (no dryer) so you might also want to communcicate in advance on that if you are counting on washing things.

Angela_m, what a great coincidence! We decided on Palace Stafileo last week! I sent an e-mail a few days ago, and they responded last night to say that they had an apartment available and that I should send credit card info if I want to reserve it, which I did. I loved the way the apartment looked and the location, which was one of the few I could find that was actually within the city walls. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay, because I haven't seen anything about it either.

I do have a question....did you have a car? We will be driving, and the website says that they have parking about five minutes away. DH is a little weary about driving in Trogir (we usually have a "no driving within city walls" rule; we learned our lesson in Umbria!) but I don't expect their to be much traffic in Trogir in November.

Syl, you are probably right. I am only staying three nights, so I got a higher rate. And like Happycheesehead, I think I got the larger apartment. I can't say for sure, but they sent over pictures of the apartment I would be renting, and it has the white furniture and the separate bedroom.

HappyCheesehead, I agree that they are still very good prices! I was quite surprised to find out how expensive hotels in Dubrovnik were, so I think this is a great deal. And for that view?! I can only imagine what it would cost for a room with a view like that on the Amalfi coast!

Thanks!
Tracy

You have that right Tracy! We are heading over to the Amalfi Coast when we leave Croatia - prices are HIGH! We actually decided to use points to stay at the Crowne Plaza in Castellemare Di Stabia - I think it is a good deal at 25,000 points for a King Suite priced at 334 Euro. We won't be actually on the Amalfi Coast there, but have quick access to Capri, Pompeii, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. I couldn't justify paying the prices there when I had free access to the Crown Plaza.

tcreath--we did have a car, we drove from Dubrovnik. Right before we left Dubrovnik we emailed Tomislov and his daughter met us right near the bridge. We followed her to a local pay parking area but Tomislov validated our ticket so the parking was free. Trogir is on a small island connected by bridges to the mainland. You cannot drive within the city walls, but Trogir is so small you will be able to walk around the entire town in an hour or so. Hope you have a great time!

Angela, thanks for the information! Now I can assure DH that he will be fine because he won't have to drive in the city walls...good news for him! We were given the phone number as well, so luckily we won't have to worry about getting lost.

Thanks again!

Dub is pedestrian-only, and very compact, so no-one has to worry about driving within the city walls! I just posted an answer about overnight parking in Dubrovnik to someone else. Just click on my screen name to see it.

My two cents are that I would prefer to be within the city walls. How long will you be there? If you are there a week or longer, why not split your time between both? That way you shouldn't have any regrets about your choice.

Hi, tcreath,
We stayed in Dubrovnik in May of 2003
at the villaadriatica. It has a large
terrace overlooking the sea and is just
steps from the gate to the old town.
The villa is behind walls that still
have the bullet holes in them. Don't
be put off by the exterior. The owners
have tours available. but no
pressure to use them. There are pic-
tures of the terrace in many of the
brocures for Dubrovnik.
There are two rooms and open out to
the terrace. The others do not.

adriatica/
We were in Croatia for 3 weeks and
loved every minute of it.

Hi Syl:

That confuses the heck out of me - when I look at both of the websites that Apt Antonela uses, they both say that apt 2 has a balcony. Was there any explanation about why it suddenly doesn't have one?

Because it wasn't apt.2. It was a studio without a balcony.I misunderstood. You got a good deal.

Okay Tracy & HC,
I bit the bullet & booked 300 steps up at B&B Stankovic on Matije Gubca 15. Cost is 54 euro for a double room, private bath, balcony with amazing view off room & full Croatian breakfast. Time to get my hiking legs in shape.

Syl, sounds like you found a great deal! I am pretty happy with the price that Antonela gave me, so I went ahead and booked with them. I also have my Trogir accommodations taken care of. Now if only the hotel in Mostar would e-mail me back I would have everything taken care of! Now I just have to sit back and (unpatiently) wait for November to roll around....
