Dubrovnik 4 days 3 nights- Day Trip Mostar, Korkula, or No day trip!

Hi All, Me and my husband will be in Dubrovnik in July for 3 nights and 4 days. We are visiting multiple countries so this is one part of our trip. I wanted to know if there are suggestions from anyone about if we should do a day trip and if so which would they suggest? I checked out the cruise ship list and day 2 and 3 there will be many cruise shippers in town. So I was thinking the following:

Day 1 arrive early and do the old town this day no cruise shippers in town
Day 2 go to the beach during the day then head back later for a nice dinner and night out
Day 3 (here is where im stumped) should we do beach again or add a day trip?
Day 4 leave for airport mid afternoon maybe stop over in Cavtat for few hours before heading to aiport. Any suggestion on if this is good idea or not would be helpful too.

As for Day Trips I have thought about Mostar but sounds like a long time traveling on a hot bus. I haven't been very interested in the Montenegro trip not sure why but open to opinions. And also seemed interested in the ferry or bus to and fro Korkula for a day. Not sure if this is too much traveling for a day trip.

FYI we don't like to swim in ocean that much but we definitely want to go t the beach for a day and enjoy the sun but not so interested in going to islands to swim. Not sure if this is all Lokrum has to offer as I did come across this place as well.

Sorry I know through alot of info out there figured might give you a good understanding on what we are looking for. Would appreciate any suggestions =)

Thanks!

Lokrum has nice views of Dubrovnik, good sunning/swimming spots (would choose that over a town beach), and an interesting botanical garden if you like that kind of thing.
If you are active, a kayak tour might be fun.
My only suggestion is to look into some island day trips. If you don't want to be in a bus or car, then a boat trip is a nice way to spend a day. Nut sure what is no your itinerary so can't say, but Korcula would be too far so why not the Elafiti islands.

Mostar is fascinating IMO, and my recollection is that buses in the area were very comfortable, but I wasn't there in July, so it could indeed by less pleasant than I recall. A day trip there would certainly NOT be a day at a beach!

To get a sense of why some of us enjoyed a day trip to Kotor, see BobtheNavigator's pics:

As yorkshire says, you really won't be able to do a day trip to Korcula. The Elafiti Islands might work, or perhaps Mljet. (I haven't been to either, so I can't personally recommend them.)

And I agree with yorkshire (as I so often do! ) that Lokrum sounds like something you might enjoy.

Thanks so much. I was looking up the other beaches as suggested and would u strongly suggest to go over to Lapad area by beach and promamade area? Or is it best to stay in old town and hit up lokrum?

My parents went on the day trip to Mostar when we were there. I got married in Dubrovnik (from Ireland). But it was a very long day up at 6am not back till 8pm at night. I'd probably recommend heading to Lapad for day by the beach. Lovely little walk way along side of beach with great little cafe Levanat. Korcula is fabulous too, but I'd agree with above too far for day trip. I'd skip Cavtat, much nicer spots to spend time closer to Dubrovnik.

Don't forget the Buza Bar. You might want to spend all day there.

We had the same amount of time as you are planning and we did two day trips, one to Mostar and one to Montenegro. I would do them both again. Dubrovnik itself is pretty small and you can walk around it numerous times in the 'other days' that you aren't doing day trips and evenings. There were cruise ships in port (only two or three, sometimes there are even more) on the day we got there and it was horrible. Never been anywhere so crowded. I still loved Dubrovnik but was glad I did day trips on two of the days.

Here's my trip report - scroll about half way down to get to the Dubrovnik part, with details about the day trips.

Google images of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. It looks so beautiful. Wish we'd done this daytrip from Dubrovnik.

@ isabel -- I had forgotten your wonderful pictures of Kotor (+)! I would, of course, have directed the OP to them had I remembered....
