Dublin to Wexford to Mayo to Dublin
 

Hi, We have 14 nights for this drive.
We are visiting relatives, including my 104 year old aunt!
We'd like to stop for 2 or 3 nights in several towns, making day trips from them.
Can you please suggest your favorite towns, b and b's, restaurants and sights along the way?
What about a cheapish castle to stay in for my birthday?
We will not be staying in Dubln this time.

The cheapish-est castle I know of is Smarmore Castle Hotel north of Dublin; might not fit into your rather stretched itinerary but here it is:

What dates in and Out. What date is your Birthday and where does your Aunt live? Three Key points missing for putting a route together.

I assume from the title that although you don't want to spend time in Dublin you will be flying in and out from there.

We will be arriving into Dublin Sept.3rd and leaving from Dublin Sept.16. We will drive to Wicklow to see cousins for a few days. Then we will drive to Ballina, Mayo. We'd like to stay 2-3 days in a few places along the way. My birthday is Sept.9th. Thanks again for your help. Joan

Is it Wicklow or Wexford you are going to?

Kilkenny could be a good option for your birthday. Lots of fantastic restaurants (Campagne the pick of the bunch) and the Lyrath is a lovely hotel option. Neither are cheao mind you.

Kilkenny-Mayo would be a longish drive then, but not too bad.

6 days on the Ground before your Birthday, assuming 3 or 4 for the Wicklow section then a 2 night stay somewhere (Kilkenny Cashel Cahir?) before the Birthday Castle? Seven days then form There to Ballina and back to Dublin. so 6 really.

How about crossing to either Adare Manor or Ballyseede Castle, Dromoland Castle might be an option. Non of these would be Cheap

You could Then take some time heading up to Ballina Through Clare and Galway into Mayo.

Alternatively you could go the northern route to Ballina Markree Castle in Sligo or Ashford Castle in Cong, Mayo.

OK. Thanks to your suggestions, we're booked at Ballyseede Castle for Sept.9th through Booking .com. Now how about some towns and sights between Wicklow (not Wexford) and Tralee? Also a good base in Mayo. Joan
