DUBLIN TO LONDON FERRY
 

Hi, <BR>I am in the beginning stages of planning my vacation for next summer, and have a question I can't find a straight answer to. We are flying from the U.S. to Dublin, Ireland. Then I want to take a ferry to London, England. I can't find any information on which one to use. How do I get from Dublin to the ferry and from the ferry to London? I would really prefer not to, but am I better off flying? After a week in London we are going to take the chunnel to Paris and spend a week there. This is our first trip to Europe, and I am trying to plan it without using a travel agent. I hope this isn't a mistake. <BR> <BR>Kathy <BR>

There is of course no direct ferry from London to Dublin but there are ferries from England to Ireland-- if you search that way you should find something. Put European ferries into a search engine and you should find the appropriate links.

Both Stena Line and Irish Ferries run services from Dublin to Holyhead, from there it is four and a half hours by train to London Euston. You may want to consider one of the low cost airlines such as Ryanair they fly between Dublin and Luton Airport, from there there is a frequent bus service into London or get the free airport shuttle bus to the train station. This could be the cheapest way to go in the long run. As for planning your holiday without using a travel agent, I have done this the 'other way round' i.e. UK to America many many times, as far as I am concerned its the way to go! Hope you enjoy your first visit to Europe.

Kathy <BR>Try www.stenaline.co.uk (for ferries) <BR>or www.ryanair.con (for flights) <BR>as Jan suggested. The ferry though (as suggested) is a really longwinded way to do it. Flying will be much quicker even bearing in mind getting to and from airports. Plus the flight will probably be less expensive. The ferry would not be an impossibility though if you didn't want to fly again.
