Dublin to Galway in 20 days!

Jump to last reply

We are doing an Ireland trip for about 20/21 day in July 2013 but I need some specific help in certain regions. Our plan is to fly into Dublin and spend 3 nights there (including a day trip to NewGrange) then down to County Wexford/Waterford (stopping at Powerscourt and Glendalough on the way) to spend 2 days/2nights with friends who own a home on the coast in Fethard. Thus the first 5 nights are already spoken for, leaving us 15/16 days to get around the coast before we fly from Galway to Edinburgh for the next leg of our trip.

Here is how we generally have it broken out for the next 14 days after leaving Fethard (my questions are in parentheses. Please let me know where we have dedicated too much time or too little):

Day 1 = drive to Kilkenny for 2-3 hrs and lunch, then on to Rock of Cashel for a guided tour and general walking about for another 2-3 hrs then on to Linsmore where we will stay 2 nights at Ballyrafter House. (this is the most awkward day as we will be driving northwest to Kilkenny and doubling back south to Cashel and ultimately Linsmore but Linsmore seems a better base because of Day 2 activities….suggestions?)

Day 2 = Explore Linsmore, Cahir, Yougal and the coastal region

Day 3 & 4 = Explore Cobh, Kinsale, Kenmare, Muckross House & Farms, Blarney Castle (what town is best to stay for 2 nights?...Kinsale sounds charming but what about Kenmare?)

Day 5 & 6 = Ring of Kerry & maybe Beara, Skeelig Michael, drive along coast to Skeem, Molls Gap and Waterville (again where to stay for 2 nights to do this)

Day 6 & 7 = Dingle Peninsula – Dingle, Blasket Island, Adare, Tralee

Day 8 & 9 = Bunratty Castle experience and banquet (either here or at Dunguaire Castle in Kinvara…which do you suggest?) & Drive to Cliffs of Moher and maybe take water cruise so we can see the cliff from the water (we are not terribly interested in the plants and rocky barrenness of the Burren and am told by friends that we have to drive through it to get to the cliffs anyway which will probably be enough for us. Even the Aran Islands after much research is not THAT interesting to us….I guess we aren’t really nature people  (So where to base ourselves for these 2 days)

Day 10 & 11 – Tour Connemara, County Mayo, Cong (where to stay….WestPort?)

Day 12 & 13 – Stay in Galway for 2 days before flying out on Day 14 to Edinburgh

THANK YOU FOR ANY FEEDBACK! :-)
