Dublin to Dingle by car
We have two days for this part of our trip (followed by 2 nights in Dingle and 2 nights in Galway). We we were thinking of driving via Kilkenny and stopping overnight in Cork or Kinsale. Your thoughts? Next day drive the Ring of Kerry, end in Dingle. Is this a single 120-mile route? If not, suggestions as to the route we should take? Towns along the way? Should we do the entire 120 miles - or better to start somewhere else and drive less? Next day in Dingle, drive around the Dingle Peninsula. Then drive bia Cliffs of Moher to Galway. We we are open to suggestions!! |

Thanks - I hope it’s helpful for someone else - we finished the Ireland part of our trip a week ago - headed to Paris right now (from Normandy) for the last 4 nights of our trip. Following 3 days in Dublin, we drove to Kilkenny (lunch) to Cork (overnight) to Kinsale, then around the Beara Peninsula and Ring of Kerry, stopped in Kenmare, overnighted in Killorglin, then drove the Dingle peninsula and overnighted in Dingle. Ended with the Cliffs of Moher and Galway. Great trip! |
Definitely a stop on route would be good to break the journey as its a long drive. The motorway after Dublin is okay but some of the roads around Kerry can be small and windy and journeys can take a bit longer than planned! I would possibly consider Kinsale for that reason as its motorway (mainly) to there and its easy to continue on to Dingle from there. As someone recommended above possibly using the Wild Atlantic Way website is a useful tool for finding information. I always find doing a bit of research from travel website such as https://www.discoveringireland.com/ is also useful as their tours could provide some ideas on where you could stop for your own vacation. No, we were there after all that had taken place. It was still very moving (and, honestly, educational. For example, I never knew about the pre-built port at Arromanche). |
