Dublin to Cashel
We will be arriving in Dublin next Saturday and based on lots of advice about not driving too far after an overnight flight from these wonderful forums, we are staying in Cashel the first night. We will see the Rock of Cashel, of course, and go to Cahir on the way to Cork the following morning. I'm wondering what recommendations anyone has of other places of interest to stop and see from Dublin to Cashel. I took my grandma to Ireland 15 years ago for a week but we were in Killarney and didn't make it to Dublin or Cashel. I'm sure there are things to see on our way from Dublin to Cashel. Any suggestions?

If the weather is anyway decent, having navigated around the M50 and found the road to Cork (and Cashel), take a diversion at Kildare town and head for the National Stud and Japanese Gardens nearby.
As well as the horses and the early spring colours, there is quite a decent café on site to fuel up before moving on to Cashel - at a relaxed pace, less than a 90 minute journey.

'Tis a bit out of the way but we enjoyed touring the famine ship Dunbrody in New Ross.
I also recommend the Vee Drive from Cahir to Lismore on your way to Cork. The mapping sites will want to take you through Mallow but I have never in my life been as lost as I have in Mallow on at least three occasions.

Between Dublin and Cashel, probably the Stud/Japanese Gardens. Might add the Rock of Dunamase http://culturalheritageireland.ie/in...aoise-co-loais and Thurles for the Famine museum and Cathedral?

The Japanese Garden and the Rock of Dunamase should be pretty convenient stops on the direct route to Cashel.
Personally I find the Rock one of the best "unknown" historic sites as it has lots of the ancient structures, usually no visitors, is for free, with direct motorway access, and a great view.
If you are looking for a non-touristy beautiful small town with a castle, round tower and a typical small town highstreet to get lunch you could do a or another stop in Roscrea.
It is a minor detour from the direct route. But it's easy to find your way back to M8 to Cashel via N62 (Templemore, Thurles).
