Dublin Taxi
Anyone have any idea how long it would take a taxi to get from the Airport to Connelly St. train station on a Saturday morning. How much might I expect to pay for that trip. Thanks
|
I don't know about the taxi, but the very frequent airport bus services that route.

Buses will leave you in O'Connell Street - you would have to get off teh bus at the Spire and walk down Talbot Street (about 20 minutes walk) to get to Connelly Station. Talbot Street is not a particularly pleasant street but as it is a Saturday morning you should be quite safe as long as you keep an eye on your valuables.
Taking a taxi is easier - but more expensive if you're travelling on your own. From Dublin Airport it should cost no more than €35. |
The trip should take about 20 minutes.
Saturday morning should not be too bad. I found Connelly Station to be a dirty place and our train to Sligo was definitely 3rd world! I expected better. Easily the worst train trip I have experienced in Europe. |
I agree with Bob. Many of the trains from Connelly to Sligo or Galway are a disgrace. For your own comfort I would advise bringing any food or drink that you might need with you (you could pick it up in the airport or in the station) as many trains do not have a food or drinks trolley. They also can be either totally overheated or have no heat at all so wear layers that can be added or removed at will. Hopefully you will not be using one of the older trains but forewarned is forearmed.

Thanks for the advise. It's years since I traveled the Dublin - Sligo line but I believe they have or are in the process of upgrading all the trains on that line. I did see a direct bus service from the Airport to the station and it takes abour 35 mins. My flight arrives in at 6.55 am and the train leaves at 8.00 so I was thinking a taxi might be much quicker if I get out of the airport on time. I have also looked at the bus service to Sligo which is another option but the bus also leaves at 8.00am. The next train or bus is 3 hours later and I hate waiting around station jetlagged. Is there any hotel near either of these stations where one could sit in the lobby to kill some time. Thanks for all your help.

Jurys Inn Customs House is just a couple of blocks away. They actually advise 'cutting through' the IFSC complex to get to it. I'm thinking of staying there overnight, coming into Connelly about 20:00 this coming June.
Just HOW scetchy IS that area? Hasn't it been recently revamped as well? Bob |
Even closer just go into the road that is on the left as you walk to the River before the Large office Building. there are restaurants and Cafes in here as a large population of apartments are in this area. You don't have to trudge all the way to Jury's

SiobhanP:
Is the Jurys 'all THAT far'? And how is the 'neighborhood' around 8 or 9 PM? The Mrs. gets nervous, about stuff like that... Bob |
Its fine it is a business area. see the map http://www34.mappy.com/sidHuUrBNM+wY...p;x=38&y=9 if you walk to the river there is a street to your left that the map dioes not show. It is a commercial area and there are a few shops etc. I think there is a coffee place as well. If not go this way anyway and cut up to the water for Jurys.
Also on the map shows Talbot St. there are a few Cafes on this street. Its fine in the morning. |
Per tdcmul's request:
Author: tdcmul Date: 03/29/2007, 05:04 pm For some reason, I can't add a reply to my previous post "Dublin Taxi", but I just wanted to say thanks for all the advise. I have decided to fly from Dublin to Sligo...the cost was a little more but the aggrivation should be a lot less and I should be there quicker than the bus or train. If anyone can link this to my last message that would be great. Bob |
Thanks Itallian Chauffer. Someone on my other post told me how to find the "post a reply" box.
