Dublin suburbs B&B's

Does anyone have any recommendations northside of Dublin, with easy access to the city? Clontarf or Howth? Has anyone stayed at the Aishling House, which was in the "Be Our Guest" book?
Any personal experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks...
Bonnie

I stayed in Swords, just north of the Dublin Airport. If you are driving, it is an easy drive into Dublin (only one turn to make). Otherwise, there are buses (if the drivers aren't on strike like they were when I was there)

I stayed at Holly Tree House - very nice, new. About 22 punts each

We stayed in Swords, at the Brookfield Lodge on our last night (email [email protected]). This was absolutely the PERFECT place to stay, especially on your last night, as the rooms are large and beautiful, you feel spoiled (which we needed since we were depressed about leaving Ireland). The house is new, with beautiful furnishings and nice, large, modern bathrooms. I would recommend it highly, and Steve is right, Swords is very convenient to the airport.

Both Clontarf and Howth are convenient both being on the Dart line. Clontarf is nearer the centre of the city and is a nice residential area. Howth is further out but it is extremely picturesque with a number of good walks. Plenty of restaurants there too. I would say you cannot go wrong with either.

Lisa B. I stayed at Brookfield Lodge too and agree with you completely. Only I was just starting my trip so wasn't depressed about leaving, but elated to be there with my whole trip ahead. But it was a perfect start for my trip. Since my wife doesn't travel well she was awake all night on our flight and I knew she would crash once we arrived. In fact she was dozing in the car when we pulled into the B&B. Fortunately Patricia wasn't full the previous night and had a room ready for us (don't count on that during the season). After coffee with scrumptious bannana bread we hit the sack for a few hours of sleep. Very comfortable with a most hospitable hostess. Got the recomendation from "Best Little Guide to Ireland". In fact all the places we stayed in from that book were the best.

Bonnie, if you don't mind I am going to use this thread to ask my own question! I was wondering about Santry--if anyone has stayed there. Is it convenient? Nice area? Thanks.

We stayed at "Stauntons" in Sutton which is very close to Howth. It was a very nice suburban area. We drove our car from Mrs. Staunton's to the Car park in Howth (lots of free parking) and onto the DART for a day in Dublin. Howth also has a lot of nice restaurants for dinner. Eileen Stauton's e-mail address is [email protected]. Have a "grand" time!

Erin,
Santry is just as far from the airport as Swords and is as convient.

For anyone looking for a full list of approved and inspected B&Bs then see the Tourist Board web site at www.ireland.travel.ie

Cathy
