dublin or shannon?
 

Ive been searching for flights from atlanta to shannon but Im wondering if it is cheaper to check for flights in to Dublin. Is it cheaper to fly in to dublin rather than shannon? Or is there another airport I can fly in to thats cheaper?

If you're planning to both spend a few days in Dublin and see the southwest coast, then I suggest that you fly open jaw, either into Dublin and out of Shannon or vice versa. Do a "multiple destinations" search.

Open jaw tickets are often about the same price as a standard roundtrip ticket. You avoid the time and expense of doubling back.

i am actually looking for the same flight... for atlanta to shannon. it looks as if it is the same price to fly to shannon or dublin, the only problem is that there are no non-stop flights to shannon...and none of the 1-stop options sound too appealing (long layovers in newark or elsewhere). now looking into flying into dublin, then taking one of the cheap (about 10 euro!) ryan-air flights to shannon...

Be aware that the price you see for RyanAir is not the actual price. As you do the booking you then get to see the menu for additional things, like baggage. The price you pay will be higher than the advertised price.

Are you planning on staying in Dublin for a few days or traveling? The reason is that if not, then just rent a car and drive. We flew into Dublin and out of Shannon, it worked great.

If you can, though, Shannon is a much smaller airport and very easy to navigate. It's worth it (to me) to fly in and out of there when I can.

just an fyi - delta JUST put atl to both dublin and shannon on sale! it was around $700 rt yesterday and today it's $466 ($560 with all the fees).

thanks everyone for your responses! Im going to look in to the open jaw thing. I really would love to do that, actually. Im going for 7 days in june, but I only plan on staying the day in dublin before renting a car and heading towards Cork, Galway, Shannon, that area.
What Im finding is that its more expensive to fly in June(Im assuming because its the on season and a popular time to go).
So maybe I fly in to dublin and fly out of shannon?

Sure, that's doable. We did it the opposite way - into Shannon, out of Dublin. Either way works. I've found that, personally, I prefer doing the bigger city now at the beginning of the trip - if I wait until the end, I'm tired of cities. At the beginning of the trip, it's still new and interesting :)

Do you already have a place to stay? If not, I HIGHLY recommend Hazel Cottage, about 40 minutes west of Limerick.

The home is fantastic and the location is really good. The price is excellent and the O'Brians are great people. We spent a week there last June.

Ferry across the Shannon is about 15 minute drive. Cliffs of Moher is maybe 1.5 hour drive. Ring of Kerry and Dingle are just to the south. Shannon airport is maybe an hour drive.

If you fly Delta you may not get your luggage before you are heading home.
