Dublin neighborhood or hotel help
 

We will be staying in Dublin for 3-4 days before (or after) a cruise in May. We are two senior citizens who deal well with public transport and Uber/Lyft; however, walking long distances is a thing of the past. We are not big museum people, but like being near restaurants and pubs. We often stay in B&B's in Europe and have used AirBnb without complaint.

We'd certainly consider a well located, well priced hotel or B&B, but I'm thinking the prices are gonna be sky high. Please feel free to recommend any you can think of. I'd also appreciate convenient neighborhoods for which I can look for an AirBnb.

Try Harding hotel by Christchurch or Maldron hotel in Smithfield square. The Luas tram is wonderful. Buswell's hotel is also a fav of ours.

In May you might consider the B&B offering at Trinity College.

Have stayed in Hardings on 3 trips - great location . Hope you like church bells cause Christchurch rings lots . ��

Harding hotel is great! We loved it there.

We like the Harding also and the pub downstairs had good food and music.

Yes, we looked at Harding's and it looked great. UNFORTUNATELY, the Ed Sherran concerts are in town during out visit (May 17 to 20); hence, many of the hotels were booked up and ALL had inflated their prices two-three times as much a normal.

We ended up booking up at the Travelodge Stephan's Green. STILL a damn site more expensive than it should be, but no alternatives at this point.

I highly recommend Wynn Hotel in Dublin. We stayed there 2 years ago and it is very convent to everything. Public transportation is very close by if you need it. We went with the B&B option and the breakfast is great!

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I see that we fit a similar demographic profile to the OP's and have a similar ask. In my case, I would love neighborhood ideas, rather than suggestions for specific places to reserve. I've been reading online and in books, but I can't really get a sense of the different areas.

We are spending four midweek nights in Dublin next month. In our case, we're city dwellers, accustomed to walking a few blocks to catch public transportation, taking stairs. When I think of where we've stayed in cities over the past several years, it's clear that we prefer to be slightly away from the most central, business areas, and more in neighborhoods where people live and we can walk to dinner most nights, at interesting, local places. Reasonable proximity to public transportation is a must, though on this trip we'll likely also have a car.

Over the years, here are the areas we've been happy to stay in: Rome/the Campo; Montreal/the Plateau; Paris/the Place des Vosges; Philadelphia/Old City; Barcelona/Gracia; Lisbon/Madragoa. You get the idea. Any opinions/impressions to share?

Maybe Malahide or the Ballsbridge area. Look at the luas map and see where it runs as that is the best mode of public transportation with a leap card.

I was the one who started this thread. The folks over at TripAdvisor were very helpful and suggested that we stay in Dun Laoghaire. We stayed at the Royal Marine. Very well located, and we really enjoyed the area - and you're correct that your preferences do match ours. We visited Malahide while we were there (took the train up and down the coast), and that would have suited us as well.

We absolutely were glad that we didn't stay in City Center. Do see Kilmainham Gaol. We found it fascinating and a very well done tour. Book in advance.

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. In the end we splurged a little and opted for a place a little closer in, a few blocks SE of St. Stephen's Green. Your comments were very helpful in orienting us, in terms of where we would want to be (or not to be, that is the question.)
