Dublin Logistics
 

I think I have Dublin pretty well figured out except when to be where. We will arrive 9ish (two separate flights) on Friday June 14 and take the DART to Dun Laoghaire to pick up our rental car on Sunday June 16, giving us about a day and a half and two nights. We are bunking in at Trinity College so centrally located for walking. We are one slightly elderly (OAP discount eligible) granny and two student granddaughters (18 and 21).

What we want to do:
Hop On Hop Off Bus including free walking tour at 11 a.m. (have tickets beginning Friday)
Jeannie Johnston Famine Ship (may be included in HOHO; website not clear)
Glasnevin Cemetery and Museum Tours 11:30, 1:00 and 2:30 (pretty sure we will have
to take the bus to get here)
Chester Beatty Library (on HOHO route)
Literary Pub Crawl 7:30 p.m. (have tickets for Saturday)
Kilmainham Gaol (on HOHO route)
Perhaps a meal and session at The Old Storehouse on Friday (any other ideas?)
Of course, Trinity College tour especially the Long Room (may not get the historian out
of there)

1) How would you arrange this?
2) Where would you eat dinner on Saturday before the Pub Crawl? It begins at Duke Pub and they do serve food....anyone have another recommendation?
3) Any recommendations for lunch near someplace we will be anyway?

The Brazen Head always fits into a food and music equation but a good way out from Trinity Bruxells is right on the doorstep and a great start for food at a reasonable price. Pushing your bank balance The Farm restaurant Dawson St has become a bit of a star spot. Not a Dublin expert so there will probably be better suggestions.

The Jennie Johnson's closest connection to the HOHO SEEMS to be on Abbey Street -- which is NOT terribly close -- call it about 3000 feet, or so. Under 1 mile.

Since you are staying at Trinity, though, if you exit the campus near the New Square / Rugby Pitch, onto Pearse Street, turn right to Lombard Street East. A left there leads you to City Quay. Cross the pedestrian Sean O'Casey Bridge over the Liffy to Custom House Quay. Once across, the Jennie Johnson is to your right. Total distance walked, Campus to Ship, should be about 3,000 feet -- give or take 500 ;-)

So, about the same distance from Abbey Street, but it wouldn't be too bad, as a 'Loop' walk... There is a Famine Memorial about 500-ish feet to the LEFT of the Bridge as well, though it is in the opposite direction of the Ship, but you could pass it, enroute to the Abbey Street HOHO stop.

FYI --- Hoping for a GTG at the Bog Village, if all goes well.

Our mutual friend has visited the Bog Village and is very excited to take us there. Hope we can meet up!
